Riverside Primary School is a non-denominational school and serves the community of Craigshill in Livingston. The school is part of the Inveralmond Community |High School Cluster. The school sits in SIMD decile band 1.The school roll is 264 pupils split into 11 classes and the nursery has 30 places in the morning and 30 places in the afternoon. The nursery is staffed by a 0.5 nursery teacher, 2.5 nursery nurses and a part time Pupil Support Worker (PSW). There is teaching staffs of 17 including the Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher, Principal Teacher, a full time Support for Learning teacher, and a committed team of 7 pupil support workers. We have a PE specialist and a brass instructor for P5-7 pupils. The school has 12 classrooms, a good sized nursery, learning support room, nurture area, a large assembly hall, separate dining room and a PE hall with changing facilities. There is a large garden area within the school playgrounds and the nursery class has a well-resourced outdoor learning space.

This session, the priority for improvement is to develop excellence through raising attainment and achieving equity and the areas for development will be:

  • A practitioner enquiry approach to support learning and teaching in reading
  • Literacy at Early Level – Closing the vocabulary Gap
  • Development of teacher learning communities through Tapestry
  • Introduction of Maths Recovery
  • Development of Nurture at Early level

Cluster moderation to support sharing of standards and expectations leading to consistency when awarding achievement of a level within Literacy and Numeracy.
