Wimbledon High School have a fantastic opportunity for a Classicist to share their knowledge and experience with our girls in some or all of the following ways:

  • One-to-one/small group tutorials on areas beyond the curriculum to inspire our pupils (Year 12 in particular) 
  • Support our Oxbridge mentoring process for prospective candidates by introducing pupils to undergraduate-type thinking/texts etc.
  • Run a KS3 Greek/Classics club
  • Contribute written articles to our WimTeach blog about any area of Classics
  • Lead lectures/seminars with pupils from KS3-KS5
  • Creatively develop ways to make the excitement and scholarship of Classics visible across all key stages at school i.e. video blogs, noticeboards, competitions

As a Classicist in Residence, you will act as a role model, displaying the scholarship, independence and love of learning we expect from our pupils. We will consider impressively motivated third year undergraduates/graduates/post graduates who will:

  • Have excellent subject knowledge to help our pupils explore the breadth and depth of academia beyond the exam material
  • Want to work with young people to share the joys and quirks of their subject
  • Have the confidence and creativity in supporting each pupil/small groups with a bespoke programme of wider reading, research, thinking and writing and be a self-starter
  • Have the ability to forge strong relationships with pupils, balancing academic rigour with enjoyment and fun so that pupils look forward to their tutorials with you.
  • Have strong communication skills, be able to discuss, question and explain complex ideas clearly
  • Have a good sense of humour
  • Ideally have some experience of working with young people

Wimbledon High School GDST is a popular and academically very successful school.
