We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and well-qualified Teacher to teach Latin and Classical Civilisation to A Level in this highly successful department. Another subject would be advantageous. Applicants should have high expectations of pupil achievement and behaviour, excellent organisational and time-management skills, and enjoy working as part of a team.
Classics is flourishing at Kent College Pembury. All pupils begin Latin in Year 8, following the 5th edition of the Cambridge Latin Course. In Year 9, the students are given the choice of continuing with Latin or moving to a Classical Civilisation course; currently just over half of the year has opted to continue with classical subject. Both Latin and Classical Civilisation continue through to GCSE, and Classical Greek GCSE is offered ‘off timetable’, starting in Year 9. In the Sixth Form, both A Level Latin and Classical Civilisation are taught. Results have been excellent, with a high number of students going on to study Classics courses at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
The Classics Department currently comprises the Head of Department, one full-time and two part-time teachers. While the department does utilise an academic approach to language teaching, it also encourages learning that is pupil centred, accessible and exciting. It is envisaged that the successful applicant will fit in with this approach, displaying the ability to pass on a passion for the ancient world, while maintaining the department’s excellent results. Applicants should ideally be comfortable using the Cambridge Latin Course and be familiar with the relevant examination specifications. A willingness to extend the classroom experience by supporting trips in the UK and to Classical sites overseas would be welcomed.
There is a possibility of staff accommodation if candidates are willing to cover some boarding shifts within our boarding house.
We are delighted to welcome applications from candidates who share our core values and who are able to contribute to our continued future success. We recruit staff of the highest calibre who will inspire, support and challenge the pupils, and fellow colleagues, to achieve their full potential.

The Senior School has over 300 day and boarding pupils. Boarders make up 20% of the total school and come from all over the world. Entry at 11 and 13 is by an entrance test, interview and classroom observations, and the school accepts pupils with a range of academic abilities. Kent College offers a choice of 24 GCSE subjects, with group sizes usually between 3 and 18. Most pupils complete 10 GCSEs or IGCSEs, but there is the opportunity to take more or less depending on interest or need. Students are also accepted for entry at 16+ and there are over 70 pupils in the Sixth Form. We offer over 20 subjects at A Level and 3 BTECs. Class sizes in the Sixth Form normally range between 3 and 12.
