About the School

We are looking for an inspiring and innovative Classroom Teacher to help develop and grow a new specialist Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties provision based in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Located in an imposing, traditional building, with top class learning and vocational facilities, you will have access to high quality resources and equipment. As a teacher, this is a truly unique and exciting opportunity to help shape a brand new school and help create a truly exceptional learning environment, to support and develop our pupils. You will have the opportunity to create and tailor the curriculum as well as access high quality CPD to help pursue your own personal goals.

This is your chance to join a high achieving team at Acorn Care and Education, part of the NFA Group, the Education division is growing strongly – both organically and by acquisition – and is one of the largest providers in the country for the provision of care and education with positive regulatory outcomes.

Our vision is to build incredible futures by empowering vulnerable young people in the UK to be happy and to make their way in the world. Every day we improve the lives of thousands of young people, their families and communities through a focus on caring and learning.

About the role

Westbourne School caters for children aged 11-18 and aims to achieve an occupancy of 49 pupils. You will be responsible for planning and delivering Science and/or Maths and potentially other subjects as required. Differentiation and individualised learning strategies are vital skills required to meet the needs of all our pupils who will have had varying degrees of success in their educational lives.

As we are new, you will be tasked with creating exciting and inventive curriculums, aiming to utilise all of our resources and looking far beyond the confines of a classroom. This truly is an amazing opportunity to develop subjects with learning and engagement at the core of everything we do. With access to high quality facilities, the only restriction is imagination.

The teachers at Westbourne School are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils. You will be confident in directing and utilising support staff within the classroom, in order to create a fun and effective learning environment for our pupils.

The ideal candidate will successfully set a vision and targets for pupil success and be confident in using their knowledge and expertise to monitor progress, give regular feedback and encourage our young people to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study.

Who we are looking for?

Just as important as academic achievement is the social and emotional development of our pupils. As we want our pupils to be successful citizens and positively contribute to their local communities, it will therefore be imperative to provide opportunities to advance these skills. Along with this, the use of personalised curriculums and positive reinforcement will underpin your everyday practice.

The successful candidate will be versatile in their teaching approach and be willing to teach a number of subjects across the curriculum. Experience of teaching Functional Skills and GCSE would be advantageous.

This can be a challenging environment and therefore determination and resiliency are key characteristics for the post. We are seeking a practitioner with an understanding of SEMH and ASD, allowing the successful candidate to immediately form positive relationships and adapt to the needs of the pupils. However, we invest heavily in teacher development and want staff who endeavour to achieve more.

If you are passionate about this truly unique and rewarding sector and have the energy, drive and desire to motivate our pupils and ensure they achieve the best possible outcomes, then we welcome your application.

This position will commence January 2020 or as soon as possible (subject to approved references/DBS checks).

Closing date: Monday 23rd September 2019

Interview date: Monday 30th September 2019

Acorn Care and Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young people in our care. Successful applicants to appropriate roles will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.

Welcome to Westbourne School

Westbourne School is a truly unique provision which blends academic and vocational learning to provide the best possible outcomes for all children, regardless of ability or start point. The school is proud to offer first class vocational facilities which include mechanic and construction workshops, a hair and beauty salon, ICT suite and fully kitted catering provision. This is supported by high quality teaching rooms which provide access to fantastic ICT provision for all pupils. Our goal is to create bespoke curriculums that support the needs of each individual child, allowing them to flourish and succeed giving them the best possible opportunities in life.

As a school we understand that some of our students’ views of education may be negative and that the transition back into school life can create feelings of anxiety, uncertainty and fear. Through a holistic approach of high quality education, pastoral and therapeutic staff, we aim to remove these barriers and support each child back into school where they can be happy, safe and eager learners once again. This can only be achieved by the forging of strong working relationships between staff and students. By really getting to know each individual child, we can target our support and ensure progress both academically and socially.
