Mayfield School Chestnut Centre caters for pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. The school is operational on three sites which are 12 miles apart. The Chestnut site is managed on a daily basis by the Head of Centre with Mayfield providing strategic leadership, support and monitoring. The Successful candidate will be employed to work at the Chestnut site working with pupils who exhibit challenging behaviour and have an EHCP with a primary area of need: SEMH.

We are currently seeking an exceptional individual to join our team, who has the qualities and passion to work with children with challenging behaviour and those who experience significant barriers to learning. You will have a caring and child centred approach; with an ability to show empathy, perseverance, personal resilience, patience and an ability to work flexibly as part of a supportive team.


You will have:

-      Evidence of being an outstanding teacher

-      Qualified teacher status

-      A passion for working with children with Social emotional mental health difficulties (SEMH) and associated challenging behaviour

-      An understanding of Attachment and how this may affect children on a daily basis, a working knowledge of the PACE approach

-      The ability to lead a small team of support staff

-      Teaching experience (SEN/SEMH)

-      An up to date knowledge of the primary curriculum

-      A drive for improving the outcomes of the children in your care.


An understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties in children and effective strategies to support and promote achievement with these children.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate: high expectations of achievement, a vibrant and creative approach to learning, commitment to excellence and outstanding outcomes in both academic and emotional and social development and an ability to develop positive relationships with the most challenging of children and families.
