This is a permanent appointment

Responsible to Governance Leader of Meridian Trust

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, flexible individual with great organisational skills and proven administrative experience to support our Academy Council (Local Governing Body) at Somersham Primary School. The successful candidate will provide effective and efficient clerking, administrative support and record keeping and will be required to attend Academy Council meetings at Somersham Primary School.

Previous clerking experience would be an advantage, but full training could be provided for the right candidate. An interest in education and strong writing and organisational skills are essential.

Duties will include:

  • Clerking 6 committee meetings per year, including drafting agendas. minuting the meetings and ensuring follow-up
  • Providing advice on governance, constitutional and procedural matters
  • Ensuring the Academy Councils are properly constituted and compliant with statutory requirements
  • Providing administrative support to the Academy Council
  • Supporting volunteers in governance roles including signposting

The postholder will be required to attend school for in-person meetings. These are usually held in the evenings and dates are available far in advance. We would consider the Clerk attending some meetings in person and clerking some meetings remotely. The Clerk is accountable to the Meridian Trust Governance Leader, Academy Council Chairs and Principals of those academies in which the Clerk is working.

Due to the nature of this role, applications from those already working in a Trust school for clerking in the same school will not be considered. However, all staff are welcome to apply for clerking roles in Trust schools other than their own.
