Job Title: Clerk to Governors (two positions available)

Responsible to: The Governing Body, Executive Head Teacher, Head Teacher, Chair of Governors and Head of School

Salary Grade: Band E Points 8-11 £20,852-£22,129 (Full time equivalent). Hourly Rate £11.11-£11.79.

Contract: Permanent, part time, term time 

Unfixed hours

Two posts available, one for primaries and one for both the secondary schools.

Approximately 165 hours across both secondary schools

Approximately 244 hours for all 3 primary schools

Actual hours will vary from week to week according to the schedule of meetings which are mostly held in the evening at the 5 schools in the Trust.  One meeting of the Full Governing Body and two committee meetings each term for each school.

The Directors of Holy Family Catholic MAT would like to invite applications from excellent, enthusiastic and engaging individuals for the post of Clerk to Governors for our schools across the MAT. There are two positions available. We are looking to appoint a Clerk to Governors to cover our two secondary schools, this post is approximately 165 hours per year. We are also looking to appoint a Clerk to Governors to cover our three primary schools, this post is approximately 244 hours per year.

This is a unique opportunity to work across our Holy Family Multi Academy Trust. Actual hours will vary from week to week according to the schedule of meetings which are mostly held in the evening at the 5 schools in the Trust.  One meeting of the Full Governing Body and two committee meetings each term for each school.

 

What we are looking for individuals to do:

Provide the Local Governing Body with information on procedural matters before, during and after meetings, ensuring this is in line with the articles of association. 

Act as the first point of contact for governors ─ answering questions concerning procedural matters and issues relating to the structure of governance and scheme of delegation.

Access the appropriate legal advice, support and guidance from the MAT and/or third parties on behalf of the Local Governing Body. 

Keep the Local Governing Body up-to-date with any changes in legislation which are likely to affect the governance of the school. 

Work alongside the Executive Headteacher,  Head of School, Chair of Governors and clerk to trustees to prepare an agenda for the Local Governing Body meetings. 

Ensure that all the appropriate paperwork is ready before meetings, and distributed to governors in line with the terms of reference. 

Record attendance at all meetings, taking responsibility for dealing with absences, including providing absent governors with details of upcoming meetings.

Demonstrate an awareness of confidentiality when recording sensitive discussions and decisions and ensure that confidential minutes are recorded and distributed appropriately.

Develop and maintain professional and effective working relationships with the Local Governing Body, Executive Headteacher Head of School and SLT.

In September 2019 a new Deputy Head teacher was appointed and together, the Head teacher and Deputy have realigned and expanded the Senior Leadership team to optimise capacity for continued improvement.
