Job overview

The clerk is the constitutional conscience of the governing body.

The main purpose of the role is to provide advice to the governing body on governance, constitutional and procedural matters, and act as officer of the Corporation with a central role to perform when promoting the effective governance of the Corporation.

The clerk is responsible to the Corporation for ensuring that their proceedings are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the statutory Instrument and Articles of Government, the financial regulations and financial procedures of Central Bedfordshire College and general law.

The responsibilities will fall under the main headings below:

  • Provision of advice on the role, function and constitution of the corporation and its committees
  • To organize the proper conduct of the corporation and committee meetings
  • To ensure that all appointments to the corporation have been validly made
  • Maintaining registers of members, rules, and appropriate copies of statutory documents are made available for public inspection

About Central Bedfordshire College

Central Bedfordshire College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational further education college in Bedfordshire, serving students from the age of 16 and above. The college, situated in Dunstable has over 3,000 learners attend every year. It is in partnership with The University of Bedfordshire and The University of Northampton.

Central Bedfordshire College was established in 1961. It is spread across three campuses – Kingsway, Luton Road and Kingsland Central Bedfordshire. It offers a range of vocational full and part time further education and training programmes from Level 1 to Level 5, along with apprenticeships and adult learning classes. Facilities include a training hair and beauty salon, training restaurant and engineering centre.
