Job overview

At Lambeth Academy and The Hurlingham Academy, we live by our school motto to ‘be exceptional’. To achieve this, we need the best staff to bring out the best in every single student. For many of our children, this means equipping them with the knowledge, ambition and skill to attend university and go on to have a meaningful career.

We have a relentless focus on high standards, whether this is on the learning in classrooms, our students’ interactions around the Academy, or in raising their aspirations. We don’t overcomplicate things: teachers teach, and students learn. Anything that takes away from this core focus has to come second. We believe exceptional learning is about determining the simple things that work, doing them well, and doing them all the time. If you’d like to join us on this mission, please come and visit us – we’d be delighted to welcome you.

The role

The role is a new one and, as such, it presents a great opportunity for someone to shape the delivery of facility services across the cluster.

We are looking for a person to strategically manage and ensure that both Lambeth and Hurlingham Academies meet all building regulations and health and safety legislation and be proactive in providing a planned maintenance programme across both sites.

You will ensure that best practices are followed for maximum efficiency and that the most suitable learning and working environment is attained for our students and employees across two complex and varied estates. This will bring many challenges but also many opportunities to deliver an excellent service provision which include aspects of Cleaning, Security, Vehicle Management, Lettings Management, Building Improvement Projects, Caretaking and Basic Maintenance.

The post holder will establish a long term vision and plan in regard to how the Academies can maximise its grounds and facilities

About You

You will need to be an experienced facilities manager looking to develop your career within a multi-site estate. You will have relevant practical building related experience and qualifications.

There will be a requirement to work closely with staff at all levels in co-ordinating site security, maintenance programmes, and health and safety requirements.

The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently as well as manage two independent teams. You will need to be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines, have excellent prioritisation skills, and be computer literate. You will have an eye for detail as well as the capability for assessing the overall picture and be enthusiastic about working within a school environment, and supporting the needs of the Academy’s.

United Learning

Lambeth Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
