Sacred Heart School is looking to appoint a dynamic and ambitious Co-Head of Physical Education.

We are seeking an outstanding practitioner to co-lead this highly successful department and co-ordinate the Physical Education curriculum and non-curricular programme across the school, with particular focus on girls’ PE.  Sacred Heart has enthusiastic pupils and many are naturally gifted in a wide range of sporting disciplines. Physical Education at Sacred Heart is also an extremely popular option at GCSE. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of inspirational teaching, will be able to manage a diverse team of teachers and coaching staff and will have a dynamic, informed vision of Physical Education in the curriculum. 

You will lead on all aspects of Physical Education teaching, promoting interest in the subject across the full age range of the school. We will expect you to manage and develop a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for the subject area. There is the opportunity to make a big impact on standards of student attainment and achievement through your fresh ideas, motivational skills and keen focus on improvement. Experience at KS5 would be an advantage to prospective candidates.

Sacred Heart now inhabits a brand new build with up to date facilities. Although it lacks its own playing fields, Sacred Heart recently invested in playing fields at Turney Road, Dulwich. The school is keen to develop the partnership between itself and this centre.

Key responsibilities 

· Co-managing a staff of four teachers and several coaches to ensure effective teaching and learning takes place across a curriculum which includes gymnastics, netball, football, hockey, rugby, rounders, cricket, tennis and swimming.

· Planning and teaching lessons with regard to continuity and progression to ensure effective learning takes place.

· Planning and preparing lessons in advance in collaboration with colleagues and ensure that learning is kept within curriculum targets.

· Planning the termly games timetable including ratios for staffing and teaching groups.

· Arranging and administering a calendar of regular fixtures which provide opportunities for all pupils to participate at their ability level both within the school and with other schools.

· Being the initial point of contact for parents in matters related to Physical Education.

· Promoting the department in whole-school activities such open mornings and assemblies.

· Participating in the organisation and running of extra-curricular sports clubs.

· Co-ordinating the organisation of all annual school sports events, including sports day, cross country etc.

· Co-ordinating a range of coaches to provide better performance and provide links to further opportunity in sport.
