Job overview

Due to expansion and the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy, Barking & Dagenham College is seeking to appoint to a new and innovative role of  College Electrician/Electrical Assessor. As a qualified electrician you will  undertake electrical repairs and maintenance across the college and its offsite  locations as well as statutory testing of emergency lighting. As an assessor you  will assess the electrical apprentices training at the college to ensure  students are trained to highest level and full training will be given to  undertake the A1 Assessor Award. 

The successful applicant will require excellent interpersonal skills and be  able to communicate effectively with learners, employers and other external  bodies. Good organisational skills are essential as the role has a significant  self-management aspect. Barking & Dagenham College is a vibrant and highly successful College in  East London with circa 12,500 students, circa 500 established staff and a  turnover of £35m. The College offers routes into learning from entry level  through to MBA level, including apprenticeships, higher level apprentices,  higher education and job centre plus clients. We have technical specialist areas  from level 3 and above with a broad based curriculum up to level 2.We are  immensely proud of the achievements of our students, our entrepreneurial and  motivated staff team and our extensive partnership network. The College trains  circa 850 apprentices, including circa 110 higher level apprenticeships and  delivers work place training, traineeships and higher level technical and  professional specialisms up to MBA level in our 4 strategic vocational areas;  Construction, Design & Management; Engineering including mechatronics &  robotics; Digital Creative; Health & Social Care and Leadership and  Management across the pan London occupational sectors.

Located in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, Barking and Dagenham College is a large further education college providing qualifications and work skills to learners aged 14 and over. The college has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation since its founding, and as a result can boast of a wide range of different teaching and recreational facilities. The college also works closely with external providers and business partners, in order to provide some teaching and work-experience off-site for students who require it.

Barking and Dagenham College offers a huge range of courses for learners of every kind, young and old, full and part-time. Of particular importance are courses aimed at 16-18 school-leavers, with a number of A-level and BTEC courses being run by the college, as well as foundation degrees for students looking to go into higher education. The college itself does actually offer a limited number of higher education degree courses, with students able to take advantage of the college's location and flexible financial offerings.
