An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Competition Manager to work as part of a team to develop and deliver a programme of sports competitions across Manchester schools. The post holder will be employed by and based at William Hulme’s Grammar School, a highly over-subscribed 3-18 Academy, with circa 1000 students in total and over 180 members of staff. This is a full-time (term time only plus 10 days) fixed term funded post until August 2020, via exchequer funding from Sport England, made available by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department of Health. The Youth Sport Trust and Ecorys play a crucial role in quality assuring the delivery of the School Games programme at a local, regional and national level.

Your role will be to ensure the effective delivery of the School Games programme within Manchester and Greater Manchester. The post holder will work closely with the Principal, Senior Leadership and PE Team at William Hulme’s Grammar School and will be supported by the School Games Organisers (hosted by Wright Robinson College and Our Lady’s RCHS). The School Games Organisers and Competition Manager play a vital role in the development and delivery of Manchester’s PE, School Sport and Physical Activity programme, which is delivered on behalf of Manchester School’s PE Association.

Responsibilities will include:

  • To increase participation of children and young people in sport and physical activity.
  • To develop and enhance intra and inter-school competition; increasing the numbers of YP taking part across Manchester, incorporating leadership and making links where appropriate with external agencies/National Governing Bodies.
  • To assist and support School Games Organisers (SGO) and contribute to the SGO remit as outlined by Sport England
  • To create sustainable models for competition in Manchester and liaise with community clubs to assist in the running of competitions and events promoting school club links.
  • To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated competition framework for students
  • To ensure that Manchester supports all 4 levels of the School Games, but in particular Levels 1, 2 and 3.
  • To engage more young people in assisting with the running of competitions through leadership and volunteering.

We are looking for someone:

  • with the experience of co-ordinating and delivering sports activities, events and competitions.
  • to work independently and as part of a team, with initiative and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, plus competent IT skills.
  • with the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and priorities of MPEA.
