Job overview

The Compliance Officer is a new, high profile whole-school role with responsibility for ensuring that all aspects of compliance are appropriately structured, managed and discharged in accordance relevant legislation.

The role of the Compliance Officer is intentionally varied and will be key to ensuring that the school achieves all aspects of compliance in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. The post holder will be the first point of contact on legal and compliance matters, and will manage the school’s compliance strategy and plan. They will be expected to be visible across the school, in order to understand and manage compliance matters, challenging areas of non-compliance where appropriate. The normal expectation is that the post holder will be spending a good proportion of their time looking at practice in relation to policy and being prepared to identify areas where there are areas of compliance vulnerability and risk. They will be expected to seek to resolve these matters directly in most cases by requiring a suitable response in a timely fashion.

The Compliance Officer will lead the school’s plan to ensure compliance with the Independent School’s Inspectorate (ISI) regulatory requirements. This will involve developing a deep understanding of ISI requirements and working with senior managers and other school staff to ensure that all requirements are met at the required standard. Working closely with the Bursar, the post holder will also manage the school Business Continuity Plan and the school’s risk management processes. The Compliance Officer will also act as the school’s Data Compliance Officer to ensure that all GDPR and Data Protection requirements are met. The appointee will be expected to work flexibly and undertake other duties in support of the Bursary Department as required.
