Job overview

Computer Science and Design Technology Teacher

Full time, permanent Computer Science and design technology teacher required for September 2018.

(Part time Computer Science teacher 0.63 FTE, part time Design Technology 0.4 FTE would be considered – please make this clear on any application)

As a high performing selective girls’ school we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled teacher capable of teaching both Computer Science for the majority of their time but also able to contribute to the development of CAD, electronics and/or Graphics elements of the Design technology KS3 curriculum, there would be non-contact time allocated for one year to develop this second aspect of the job role.

The school has a comprehensive programme of Computer Science throughout KS3, 4 and 5. The majority of students opt to study GCSE Computer Science and there is a healthy number interested in continuing with this subject area at A Level and beyond. The successful candidate must be able to contribute to at least GCSE standard and preferably to A Level in time. There are dedicated teaching rooms, a supportive, experienced teaching department and IT technician team, and NQT coaching support if required.

Currently Design Technology is taught throughout KS3, and there are GCSE groups in Design Technology - (Textiles) as well as Food and Nutrition. The re-development of the KS3 curriculum to better prepare our students for a wider range of Design Technology GCSE foci is a key aim and we are currently recruiting for a new Head of Department to lead these changes.

The students are enthusiastic about both these subjects, are well aware of their relevance to future working environments and enjoy the challenge of designing and solving problems. The school is committed to encouraging students to take risks, work as teams and to fully engage with their learning. There is a well-structured and supportive programme of professional development for staff including in-house professional learning communities.

Please download the job description and person specification from our websites. Visits are welcomed and can be arranged by contacting the Head’s PA.

Applications can be made by sending a completed application form, covering letter including the names and addresses of two referees, to the Headmistress, Mrs A Whittall

Closing date: 27th April 2018, at 12 noon.

Interviews: Week commencing 30th April 2018
