A popular, expanding and over-subscribed, high performing British-curriculum school, we seek a Computer Science and ICT teacher for KS3, 4 and 5 to join a thriving team of specialist teachers in our growing Secondary School from September 2018. Due to recent changes in qualifications and experience requirements, we can now accept applications from teachers with all levels of experience including Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) with no post qualification teaching experience. As a BSO (EduBase No. 143834) and BSME school we can also offer the NQT Induction year in association with Buckinghamshire Learning Trust to newly and recently qualified teachers who meet the qualification requirements below.

We follow the 2014 National Curriculum of England and the EYFS, Development Matters curriculum in FS. We offer a range of GCSE, IGCSE and AS levels from Cambridge, Edexcel and AQA exam boards.

The school gained BSO (British Schools Overseas) accreditation in May 2016 following a successful inspection in its second year of operation. Most recently in February 2017 in its third year of operation it had its second biannual inspection and was placed in Band A – ‘a high performing’ school moving from satisfactory it was graded good with very good features. Since then the school has continued to improve and is due for its third biannual inspection in February 2019.

The school is located in a very quiet and safe neighbourhood of Abu Dhabi called Al Bahia near to the international airport and Yas Island.

Successful candidates will show a genuine commitment to creating an inspiring and stimulating child-centred learning environment. Teachers will be highly motivated as exemplary practitioners demonstrating a deep understanding of personalised learning. Candidates should be committed to ongoing school improvement and feel comfortable in a climate of innovative and creative development.

All applicants should have one of the following sets of qualifications. There is no longer a need for teachers to have post-graduation teaching experience (in accordance with Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge Regulations which apply to all private schools in Abu Dhabi):

  • Internationally recognised Bachelors Degree in Education specialising in Y7 to 13 Computer Science or ICT

Or

  • Internationally recognised Degree in a Computing subject + PGCE in Secondary Computer Science or ICT or other internationally recognised teaching qualification such as a PGDE.
  • Internationally recognised Degree in a Computing subject with QTS

Any joint honours degree which includes theology or religious education will not be accepted by Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK.

Please note two supporting references and a police clearance certificate or DBS no more than 3 months old must be provided by successful candidates to complete the ADEK approval and visa process.

Al Basma British School is a co-educational independent all-through school. It is based in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

The school opened its doors in 2014. Students follow the National Curriculum of England, with additional lessons in Arabic language, UAE Social Studies and Islamic Studies (for Muslim students) to meet the requirements of the UAE Ministry of Education. In terms of facilities, the school has 2 multi-purpose sports halls, 2 swimming pools, play areas, a medical clinic with experienced nurses, 2 cafeterias, an administration hub, well resourced classrooms equipped with interactive panels and whiteboards, extensive STEM facilities, performance and visual arts studios and designated 6th form areas.
