Job overview
The Post
We are seeking to appoint a Conductor of our Chamber Choir to start in September 2018.
Chamber Choir is an auditioned all girls’ choir consisting of approximately 30 pupils from Years 10-13. At present, the choir rehearses weekly but there is flexibility regarding the time and duration of rehearsals (currently Thursdays at 8.00am). An accompanist may be available depending on the time of rehearsals but will always be available for concerts if required.
As part of the post, the choral conductor will need to plan and prepare programmes and rehearsals, and lead the choir at all major school concerts and concert-day rehearsals including:
- KEHS/KES Christmas concert(s)
- 2 KEHS Carol Services
- KEHS/KES Summer concert
The dates for 2018/19 have not yet been finalised but may be at the time of interview. The school has a substantial library of choral music for girls’ choirs and funds are available for the purchase of new repertoire.
We are currently organising a European tour in 2019 following our successful recent tours to Prague and Italy. We are seeking to take Chamber Choir and Chamber Orchestra on this tour, so the appointed candidate will need to be available for this (details to be discussed at interview).
Ideally, the appointed candidate would be available to hold auditions at the start of the academic year (September), assisted by another member of the music department.
The post is self-employed and we would expect to pay in line with Musicians’ Union guidelines.
Application Procedure
If you have any queries about the role or would like to discuss it in more detail, please email Michelle Sanders, Director of Music: recruitment@kes.org.uk.
Applications should comprise the following:
• A completed application form
• A short covering letter (no more than one page). This should explain why your experience makes you the best candidate for the job.
Please send completed applications addressed to Michelle Sanders (Director of Music) by email to recruitment@kes.org.uk. The closing date for applications will be Wednesday 23rd May (9am).
Provisional date for interview – Tuesday 5th June
