Job overview

As Cook in Charge at Hartwell School, you’ll whip up delicious meals for staff, visitors and young people. Food hygiene is paramount and you’ll observe all regulations. You’ll also plan menus and consider nutritional standards. It’s a great opportunity to build relationships with staff and young people alike.

Along with a Level 3 qualification in Food Safety in Catering (or equivalent), you’ll bring good organisational skills and the ability to plan menus.  These menus must be well-balanced and encourage our young people to try new food. Having catered for large groups before, you’ll know how to budget and order in bulk. An insistence on high standards means your food is always tasty and well prepared.

Hartwell School is our brand new, co-educational provision in Stockton and will be one of our largest schools with a capacity of up to 82 young people between the ages of 5-18. Like all of our schools, Hartwell School will offer state-of-the-art learning resources and well equipped environments. The school will be housed in a completely bespoke refurbished building, with great facilities including a full size sports hall, MUGA, and specialist classrooms for science, food technology and DT etc. Students will be supported in small class sizes, by well qualified and experienced staff to help them realise their full potential.

For children with complex, challenging needs, the level of care and education must go above and beyond. That’s what drives us, here at Witherslack Group. Through our aspirational homes, schools and ethos, we’ve achieved the highest possible outcomes. In short, we’re enhancing life opportunities.

This role is for 42.6 hours per week to acquire full school holidays.

Reward

We know you’re going to do great things. We offer a salary and benefits package that’s among the best in our sector. You’ll receive a competitive salary, full school holidays, contributory pension (matched up to 5%) and comprehensive induction and ongoing training, as well as extensive Group staff benefits such as Medicash Health Plan/Employee Assistance, Cycle to Work and tax free childcare vouchers. Witherslack conducts DBS Enhanced checks and covers the costs for all new employees.
