The Leigh UTC opened in 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities. We are the first UTC to join a multi-academy trust, to become an IB World School, to be built in Kent and among the first Academies in the UK to offer T-levels and Level 3 and 4 apprenticeships. We were the first UTC to open from Year 7 and have been oversubscribed in all year groups ever since, now serving over 800 young people from Kent, Medway and South-East London. We are a pioneering Academy and are looking for like-minded, ambitious people who can make great things happen for the young people in our community.

We are looking for a dynamic, committed and personable teacher to help lead our highly collaborative English department in the role of Coordinator of Learning - English. The successful candidate will be passionate about helping to oversee the planning and delivery of an English curriculum which supports our vision of developing STEM professionals for the future global market. This is a new role within the Academy and the candidate would be assigned coordinator responsibility within either KS3 or KS4 depending on their skill set. At The Leigh UTC, we believe our team ethos is the most important aspect of our success, making this a great opportunity for a colleague who wants the opportunity to develop innovation and drive success in a supportive environment. We aim to develop learners who are not only confident, thoughtful readers, writers and speakers, but who are also interested, independent thinkers. The Leigh UTC is a STEM-based provision, but our learners enjoy and value their studies in English, and see the relevance of the subject to the rest of their studies and to their futures.

The Director of Learning for English is a highly experienced practitioner whose passion is supporting people to develop their practice. The department boasts two lead practitioners who raise the quality of teaching across the school. We aim to strengthen our team further by adding a post-holder with a specific responsibility in the department at either KS3 or KS4. At KS3, the English department contributes to the delivery of the IB Middle Years Programme; this offers colleagues the opportunity to be upskilled in an exciting, inclusive and flexible mode of teaching. We are proud of our curriculum offer and our focus on self-improvement through a joint effort. We seek either an experienced colleague with the desire to use their leadership skills, or a teacher with the potential and drive to develop these skills. Anyone with a strong interest in teaching and learning will love the atmosphere in this department!

Working with us: ​​​​​​​Having opened in September 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities originally for Key Stage 4 and 5, The Leigh UTC provides an exciting, innovative, business-led, problem-solving curriculum, enabling students to achieve relevant academic and work-related qualifications and transferable skills for future destinations. The most unique feature of The Leigh UTC is its business ethos that are emphasised by our STEM rich curriculum and relationships with local and national employers.

In September 2017, following the request of the Department for Education due to our continued success, The Leigh UTC marked history by expanding its student intake to incorporate Key Stage 3 – the first UTC in England to do this. Furthermore, being the first UTC to have IB World School Status has enabled us to develop strong international links. Having IB Status has enabled us to further develop the mid-years programme (MYP) for our Key Stage 3 students and thus providing a joined-up pathway from ages 11 to 19. The overarching mission of the Inspiration Academy is to develop curious, academically-skilled young people who aspire to be principled, compassionate learners. Our curriculum strives to create students who are self-motivated, competent, willing to take risks and lifelong learners.

Vision

Leigh Academies Trust is a non-profit making charitable company limited by guarantee, based in Dartford, Kent. The Trust exists to support and assist schools to build upon their existing strengths and to help them achieve rapid educational transformation. It has significant experience in running schools, and today includes both sponsored academies and schools which have chosen to convert to Academy status.

The Trust was formed in 2008 with the linking of the Leigh Technology Academy and Longfield Academy under one governing body. It encompasses 9,000 students between the ages of 3 and 19 in 13 primary, secondary and special academies.
