Wellington College is one of the world’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools and has an enviable reputation for excellence and innovation. We’re currently looking for a flexible and pragmatic individual to join our Pastoral team as a Counsellor.

The College’s counselling service is part of a Pastoral support team - which includes a Deputy Head Pastoral, Housemasters and Housemistresses, Tutors, Matrons, Heads of Year and a Health Centre. Join us, and you could soon be responsible for providing a confidential counselling service to students and staff alike.

Reporting to a Senior Counsellor, your primary responsibility will be to carry out one-to-one counselling. However, we’ll also rely on you to maintain accurate records and keep them secure. Regularly meeting with the senior counsellor to discuss any specific concerns and general trends will be important too, as will making onward referrals when appropriate. Along the way, we’ll expect you to maintain a high level knowledge and awareness of changes and developments in the counselling and education fields and their impact. You’ll also need to engage in regular clinical supervision as required by BACP/UKCP.

To apply, you’ll need a counselling or psychotherapy qualification to Post Graduate Diploma or Masters level and proven relevant post qualification experience. You’ll also need a qualification in working with children and adolescents or systemically, UKCP or BACP accreditation and familiarity with child protection. A good understanding of attachment and child development plus specific developmental and other issues and challenges faced by young people in a boarding school environment and the educational system in general is essential too.

Comfortable working both within a team and independently, you’re also adept at forging and sustaining therapeutic relationships with young people who can be difficult to engage. What’s more, you have a high degree of integrity, can clearly articulate your reasoning behind choice of interventions and are able to prioritise a demanding workload. In short, you’re passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people.

Closing date: Monday 14 October 2019.

Interviews: Thursday 17 October 2019.

Early applications recommended.

So, if you’re keen to take on a vital role that’s about promoting a caring and supportive environment where concerns may be explored, thereby improving the mental and emotional health of the College, while further developing personally, apply today.
