The Position

IGB International School (IGBIS) is seeking an outstanding Counsellor experienced with grade Year 10-13 (Grade 9-12) students to commence in August 2019.

The Grade 9-12 Counsellor is a member of the Student Services Team comprising of the Head of Student Services, Elementary and Secondary School Learning Support, ESOL Support, Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Nursing assistance and Mindfulness. The Counsellor will be responsible for the social and emotional wellbeing and university applications for students in their division. Prior experience of working with students who require Learning Support,  (‘Special Education’) and English Support would be an advantage.

The School

IGBIS is divided into two administrative sections: Elementary School (Early Years - Grade 5) and Secondary School (Grades 6 - Grade 12). Although current enrolment is close to 500 students, the facilities have been developed with the potential future enrolment of 1400 students.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) has granted IGBIS authorisation to offer the IB Diploma Programme (DP), IB Career-related Programme (CP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and IB Primary Years Programme. IGBIS is a member of the Association of Malaysian International Schools, the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the East Asia Council of Schools (EARCOS). The school has been awarded accreditation with both CIS and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Parents are active participants in their children’s education. Close communication between school staff and parents include Parent Teacher Student Conferences, regular parent morning teas, blogs, the weekly newsletter, a learning management system (Managebac), and our school website.

Location & Facilities

IGBIS is situated in Sierramas, Sungai Buloh, a suburb in the north west of Kuala Lumpur.

The world-class facilities include well-conceived classrooms, laboratories and cafeterias, state of the art libraries, a 540- seat theatre, a senior student study centre, performance studios and practice rooms for music, drama and dance, visual art classrooms and studios, and design and food technology teaching rooms. The sports facilities are equipped with an air-conditioned indoor gymnasium housing 3 full-size basketball courts, a fitness and weight training centre, an artificially turfed FIFA standard football field surrounded by a 400m, 8-lane athletics track, tennis courts, a 50m Olympic standard swimming pool with the provision for electronic timing and a heated 25m learn-to-swim pool for Elementary School students.

The Teaching Faculty

IGBIS has brought together experienced educators from across the globe to deliver excellence with the IB programmes. The Leadership Team has been joined by over 60 experienced teachers recruited worldwide, all of whom share a commitment to the values of a holistic, international, IB education.

Candidates are experienced, enthusiastic and cutting edge practitioners, with appropriate tertiary qualifications along with stamina, passion, commitment and a sense of humour. The coordinators and subject leaders have strong interpersonal and team building skills together with the ability to manage their programmes or subject areas through a period of development and expansion. In this context, IGBIS teachers have successful experience with PYP, or with MYP and DP/CP, and embody the spirit of both the IB and of the inclusiveness that underlies the school’s Vision and Mission. As role models of the IB Learner Profile, they must exhibit the skills required to work in collaborative planning teams and the flexibility to undertake more than one subject area and/or grade level.

Teachers’ Benefits

An outline of teacher benefits are summarized below. Further details will be shared with short-listed applicants.

  • Contract: Initial term of contract is for 2 years, subsequent contracts may be offered for one or two years.
  • Salary: Salary is paid in Malaysian Ringgit (as per the salary scale).
  • Superannuation (EPF): In addition to the monthly salary, the school pays 12% of the gross (before tax) salary into the superannuation fund. Teachers contribute from 11 -19% of their salary.
  • Personal Income Tax: Teachers are responsible for the income tax liability of their contract. This will apply to their salary, housing and other benefits such as the annual airfare home. Teachers are strongly advised to become familiar with the requirements for tax residency in Malaysia.
  • Airfare: Airfare provided for the teacher and eligible dependents from the home of record upon commencement and to the home of record upon completion of the employment contract.
  • Annual summer travel home after completion of 1st year: Return airfare is provided for the teacher and eligible dependents to the home of record during the summer vacation or there is an option of 80% paid in cash.
  • Housing: Furnished accommodation is provided for the first year then a monthly housing reimbursement.
  • Shipping Allowance: Two sea-freights, once upon commencement of employment and the other at the end of the employment.
  • Set Up Loan: Teachers may apply for a loan to assist with set up, car deposit etc. on arrival in Kuala Lumpur.
  • Re-Signing Bonus: Re-signing bonus depending on one or two year contract renewals from the 2nd and 3rd renewal on.
  • Group Medical Insurance: Coverage under a Group Medical Insurance Scheme including dependent spouse and up to two children.
  • Leave Entitlement: 15 Sick Days, 2 days Special Paid Leave, 5 days Compassionate Leave, 60 days Maternity Leave after 1 year of service, 3 days Paternity Leave.
  • Children’s Tuition Fee Free for up to 2 children. Third child 50% reduction in tuition fees. Other costs for children such as meals, uniforms, laptop paid by the teacher.
  • Professional Development: A range of PD opportunities for teachers provided in school and approval may be given to attend workshops in the region.
  • Work Permits & Visas: The school will arrange for and pay the cost of work permits and visas as well as the Health/Medical check-up for the initial application.
