Due to continued growth and success, Laurus Ryecroft is looking to appoint a pro-active and dedicated Cover Leader. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Laurus Trust family, and to play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of the Trust. Main Responsibilities 

  • Daily recording and management of staff absence, covering for absence where necessary. 
  • Provide cover where required across the School ensuring stability and continuity for students whose lessons are affected through short term absence. 
  • Prepare and distribute cover schedule to Reception, Administration and Heads of Year. 
  • Liaise with teaching staff to ensure all cover work is in place and room changes are notified. 
  • Arrange and prepare for both planned and unplanned cover to include trips, courses, induction days etc. 
  • Be responsible for the cover budget and strategically plan/use cover resources to keep spending to a minimum. 
  • Book Learning Managers/Cover Supervisors as appropriate to fulfil cover needs. 
  • Meet/communicate with agency representatives to discuss requirements and to negotiate on best prices. 
  • Process vetting paperwork from the agencies and manage visiting agency staff in school (monitor and support). 
  • Prepare schedules, print class registers and information ready for agency staff on arrival. 
  • Line manage all cover staff including performance development reviews and arrange any necessary training.  
  • Training and development of all Trust Support Staff who are required to provide cover. 
  • Assist with recruitment and selection of cover vacancies as necessary. 
  • Monitor and deal with any pastoral issues.  
  • Organise and safely manage the learning activities, physical teaching space and any resources used 
  • Liaise effectively and sensitively with parents and carers when required. 
  • Write evaluations on the lesson covered to provide feedback. 
  • Accompany on visits and attend school trips as required.

Key Skills & Experience  

  • Sound educational background including GCSE’s in Maths and English (A*-C) or equivalent 
  • Ideally possess prior experience within a similar role  
  • Experience working in a school environment would be advantageous  
  • Experience using SIMS would be highly advantageous

Laurus Ryecroft is an oversubscribed secondary school for 11 to 18-year-old students in Tameside. In our very first Ofsted inspection in January 2023, Laurus Ryecroft was judged Outstanding in every category.

The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education offered by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and has been named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022.

Laurus Ryecroft is a non-selective, non-denominational free school. It opened in September 2018 and we moved into our new school building with access to state-of-the-art facilities in 2020.  We now have students in years 7 – 12. With the sixth form opening in September 2023.  We currently have a total of 1070 students on roll.

Laurus Ryecroft is a vibrant, warm and exciting place to work and learn in. We are proud to be ‘Unashamedly Academic’ and have the highest aspirations for all of our students.
