Job overview

The Gatwick School is looking for an experienced practitioner to excel in the role of Cover Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly improving all through school and positively impact teaching and learning across the primary and secondary phases.


Working hours:

Permanent – 37hrs per week term time only (39 weeks) - this role will require a 07:30 start in order to arrange and allocate cover before the start of the school day


The role: 

  • To provide a high standard of care and education in a child-centred environment to pupils with guidance from the teaching staff.
  • Managing and organising cover for absent staff both teaching and non-teaching.
  • Organising and providing induction and support for supply staff both teaching and non-teaching.
  • Ensuring that safeguarding requirements and other relevant regulations are in place and adhered to including the completion and recording of necessary checks.
  • Managing and monitoring relevant budgets.


We are looking for individuals who have: 

  • Experience of working in an educational setting with children in Key Stage 3 or Key Stage 4 (desirable to also have experience of Key Stage 2 but not essential)
  • Strong organisational skills and effective time management
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Can quickly build effective working relationships with all stakeholders

Opened in 2014, and judged 'Good' by Ofsted in all areas.  The Gatwick School is a state-funded all-through school based in Crawley, West Sussex. Teaching children aged 4-16, the school is non-denominational and mixed gender. Located on Gatwick Road, it is less than a mile from the international airport of the same name.

The school can be accessed on public transport by the Metrobus network, with the Gatwick Road North bus stop situated outside the school. The Gatwick School has a breakfast club and runs OASIS clubs at the end of the day for after-school intellectual stimulation.
