Job overview

Our vision is simple – to ensure that all of our students achieve beyond our expectations and flourish as confident learners with the highest aspirations, ready for the university or careers of their choice and also ready for the world in which they will work and live.

The High Weald Academy are looking for a Cover Manager to join their vibrant and dedicated community. The role is 33.5 hours per week, term time only plus 2 days. Some flexibility in working hours can be accommodated, however the role requires a 7.45am start.

Suitable candidates will be contacted as soon as possible.

The purpose of the Cover Manager role is to plan, communicate and implement daily cover for staff absence. Where necessary to liaise with external agencies to provide effective short-term cover for teacher absence. The Cover Manager will also cover lessons for absent colleagues which will include leading the lesson which has been set by the class teacher/department. The classroom based part of the role will be to give instruction and to ensure an appropriate climate for learning. You will be required to respond to pupils’ requirements in the lesson and ensure adherence to academy policies for upholding the highest expectations and support for students to succeed, under the professional direction of teachers.

This role would be ideal for candidates wishing to gain valuable classroom experience; possibly as a precursor to teacher training or studying for a classroom support qualification. But would equally suit individuals who believe in the power of education to change lives and communities, and wish to contribute to the lives of young people.

High Weald is a non-selective co-educational Academy that serves the communities of Cranbrook, Staplehurst and the surrounding areas, with each of the 250 students on roll, supported and challenged to reach their own personal excellence.

The Brook Learning Trust

The Brook Learning Trust is proud to have High Weald as part of our family of academies. As a Trust, we bring together our unique academies in our belief in the power of education to change lives and communities.

It is our steadfast purpose to challenge and defy the barriers that constrain the educational progress of any child. We set high aims for aspiration and secure collective responsibility for all our children’s achievements. Our work is underpinned by the values of Integrity, Respect, Courage, Optimism, Excellence and Accountability.

A strong focus on teaching and learning as well as high standards and expectations has led the Brook Learning Trust to become one of the highest performing multi-academy trusts in the county. Last year, children in our academies made better progress - learning and growing with us - than they would have done in other schools or academies nationally. The Brook Learning Trust, working with High Weald Academy, brings energy, passion and expertise to the education of our children.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff to share this commitment. All posts are subject to vetting checks including an Enhanced DBS check and references.  An overseas police check will be required by candidates who have worked or resided outside of the UK.

About The High Weald Academy

High Weald Academy is a small school serving a widespread rural area.  There is a calm and orderly environment and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of academy life.  The welcoming and family ethos is reflected in our Aspire and Achieve values and in our cohort structure which promotes a strong sense of community and belonging and supports students to develop and flourish both academically and as young people.  It is a school completely connected to the local community.  High Weald Academy has high expectations of all students and aims to ensure that students achieve the highest possible academic results as well as support them to develop as good citizens able to take their place in the world.  We have an active and supportive parent body who are advocates of the work we do and promote the academy positively in the local area.

The academy currently has just under 300 students. The School Farm is outstanding and wins a range of accolades and prizes as a result of the work we do with the community and local primary schools.  It also gives opportunities to learn in a different context within and beyond the curriculum.

THigh Weald Academy is on a trajectory of improvement.  Our key priority and focus are to remove the barriers to learning in order to secure good and better progress and outcomes for all students no matter what their starting points or challenges.  We are an academy that is committed to ensuring that children achieve well and are given every opportunity to develop a diverse range of skills and abilities that will serve them well in adult life.   The Trust provides opportunities for collaboration between both staff and students across the three schools it works with. At a time of flux in education, we have a strong belief that schools can no longer exist in isolation and that partnerships of this kind are a way of providing stability, support and innovation.

The school’s motto is PRIDE. This stands for personal excellence, respect and friendship, inspiration, determination and courage, equality. Being a part of the community and cooperating with parents is viewed as important. No matter what background each child comes from, the school aims to help them reach their full potential. The academy hopes to mould the pupils into caring, young adults.
