Job overview

Cornwall has far more than just beaches, surfing and world heritage countryside; we also have some of the best schools in the country with the space, facilities and drive to give the best possible education to the students we serve.

Richard Lander School is situated in Truro to the west of the city centre and serves the beautiful coastal communities of St Agnes, Porthtowan and Perranporth as well as communities closer at hand.  It is an 11-16 community maintained school, which is highly regarded in the area and oversubscribed.

Truro, the UK’s most Southerly city is a vibrant centre of shopping, culture and impressive architecture right in the heart of Cornwall.  Centre stage is Truro Cathedral with its impressive gothic towers dominating the skyline. In its shadow, a warren of compact streets are home to an impressive array of independent traders. From boutiques to bookshops and designer interiors to delicatessens, this great little city offers a unique shopping experience. The café culture is pretty impressive too, with hip coffee houses, artisan ice creameries and cocktail bars dotted across the centre.  There is a yearlong festival programme, weekly food markets and several art galleries, cultural events and historical attractions.

Our school is welcoming and supportive with strong values; at the heart of our work is a desire to see all our young people develop their gifts and talents to their full potential. Some people call this ambition; we call it 'being the best you can be'.  Staff are on a mission to achieve great outcomes for all our students.

The opportunity has arisen to appoint a Cover Supervisor to join our team at Richard Lander School.  The main purpose of this job is to provide effective cover supervision in a range of classes and subjects in response to unforeseen short-term teacher absence, ensuring good order is maintained in the classroom and pupils keep to task.  The successful candidate will work under the guidance of teaching / senior staff within an agreed system of supervision.

Our school is welcoming and supportive, with a strong value placed on ‘being the best you can be’ and staff and students on a mission to achieve great outcomes for all our students.

This position is available from 4th September 2019 and is paid on a Cornwall Council Grade F (£20,532 FTE).  The contract is for 37 hours per week term time plus inset.

If you would like to discuss the post further or arrange a visit to the school please contact our School Business Manager, Miriam Richardson (mrichardson@richardlander.cornwall.sch.uk).

Richard Lander School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

In addition to applying via the 'quick apply' facility, please download our teacher safeguarding form and e-mail it to mrichardson@richardlander.cornwall.sch.uk.

Closing date: 12 Noon on Monday 19th August 2019.  Successful candidates will be informed of the interview date.
