Job overview

35 hours per week/39 weeks per year

In line with the Government’s announcement, our academy is closed until further notice. However, we are still busily planning ahead for the forthcoming academic year and are excited about welcoming new recruits to come and join us. In place of academy based interviews, we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are still available via skype/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage. Understandably, visits to the school are not possible at present, however we are really keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position please contact Rob Beever, Head of Deep Learning on r.beever@ripon.outwood.com or Vinutha Chandrashekar, HR Assistant on v.chandrashekar@ripon.outwood.com and we will be happy to assist.

Due to an internal move Outwood Academy Ripon, welcomes applications from outstanding applicants with integrity, imagination and energy for these rewarding roles. Historic Ripon may be the third smallest city in Britain, but its home to one of the country’s best performing academies. In our last OFSTED inspection (January 2016) we were judged outstanding in all areas. Ofsted recognise that ‘Outstanding teaching is at the root of students’ excellent achievement’ and ‘the excellent behaviour of students contributes to an outstanding climate for learning’.

Starting as soon as possible, we are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and inspiring cover supervisor with a real passion for working with young people. We offer an exciting opportunity to enhance an already highly successful and motivated team, characterised by an ambitious drive for excellence centred on the academy’s motto ‘Students First’. You will have the initiative and vision, to deliver excellence and have a clear focus on creating an environment to achieve outstanding outcomes for our students. You will support the teaching and learning to raise standards and transform our students’ life choices.

The purpose of this post is to supervise students for absent teaching staff. You will work under the direction of the lead cover supervisor and Heads of Department delivering work and tasks pre-prepared by the absent teacher or the Head of Department. You will be responsible for supervising students within the classroom whilst following Academy policies on classroom behaviour for learning and using the Consequences procedures. The ability to work as part of team is essential and experience of working in a similar role or environment would be an advantage. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, be organised and able to remain calm in a busy environment. Strong IT skills specifically in Microsoft Office are essential. Training will be provided on our management information system. The ability to work on own initiative as well as part of team is essential and experience of working in a similar role or environment would be an advantage.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Ripon is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are an 11-16 academy based in the cathedral city of Ripon, near the UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing the magnificent Studley Royal Deer Park, including the well-preserved Cistercian Fountains Abbey. Our success is one of the most impressive in North Yorkshire, and we have been recognised for our consistently excellent outcomes in progress and attainment.

Part of the Outwood Family since 2011, and judged as Outstanding by Ofsted since 2016 we retained our Outstanding status in a recent inspection, an inspection which stated that ‘Pupils are supported by caring staff who know them well”, “Pupils know that learning is important and apply themselves diligently to their work’” and noted that the relationships between staff and students are ‘very strong and behaviour around the academy is of a high standard.’

We aim to promote the highest standards of academic achievement through inspiring teaching and learning, with a curriculum designed to stretch and enrich our students’ experience. Our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs, and we have won numerous awards as a school including the Carnegie Mental Health Silver Award, Anti-Bullying Alliance Bronze Award and being accredited with the prestigious IQM Centre of Excellence status, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us

Put simply, we take pride in serving the local community, ensuring everyone has a right to learn.

Despite being Outstanding, we are constantly looking at ways to improve. Help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy. All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
