Job overview

Fixed term with potential to extend

35 hours per week, Mon - Fri, 7.00am - 3.00pm - Term time plus 5 days

Outwood Academy Ripon are delighted to be advertising an exciting opportunity at our Ofsted Outstanding academy. We are looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor on a fixed term basis until November 2023 with the potential to be extended. You will join our amazing team in a dynamic and inspirational School in the Heart of North Yorkshire. We place students at the very heart of everything we do and this is an exciting opportunity for someone wanting to work in teaching. You will support the teaching and learning of our amazing students, by creating a culture of success, ensuring they have a positive learning environment to increase student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.

This fulfilling position would suit someone looking to progress within an educational environment, someone who enjoys assisting the teaching in a classroom. Alternatively, someone looking to gain classroom experience to embark upon a teaching career or looking to have a career change. This role is a great starting point for someone looking to step into teaching.

This is a term time position for 35 hours per week, starting at 7:00 AM (start time enables calls / messages to be picked up and calls made to the supply agencies prior to being on site) and finishing at 3 PM. You will be instrumental in the planning of the cover required and the additional hours are offset against the five disaggregated days.

Our academies offer a high quality of education for our students and excellent career progression and training for staff. Our driving ambition is ‘Students First: Raising Standards and Transforming Lives’. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic practitioner to join our Family of Schools and work with us as part of the team who rapidly transforms the school to one that offers outstanding provision and is school of choice in its community.

Cover Supervisors work under the guidance of teaching staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement work programmes with individuals/groups in or out of the classroom including the supervision of whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers. You will cover lessons of any subject using the cover work set by the teacher, set high expectations to motivate and challenge students whilst managing behaviour effectively, promoting a positive learning environment. In periods where cover is not required you will support in the classroom as directed. The post would ideally suit an individual considering a teaching career, but applications are welcome from any candidate with integrity, imagination and energy for this rewarding role. The successful candidate may be responsible for organising the daily cover rota for absent staff and contacting teaching supply agencies to arrange supply staff depending upon staff absences.

A visit to our Academy is encouraged and we invite you to contact Mr Matt Coad, Assistant Vice Principal, Deep Learning, via email m.coad@ripon.outwood.com should you wish to book a visit, or have any questions or require further details.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Ripon is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are an 11-16 academy based in the cathedral city of Ripon, near the UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing the magnificent Studley Royal Deer Park, including the well-preserved Cistercian Fountains Abbey. Our success is one of the most impressive in North Yorkshire, and we have been recognised for our consistently excellent outcomes in progress and attainment.

Part of the Outwood Family since 2011, and judged as Outstanding by Ofsted since 2016 we retained our Outstanding status in a recent inspection, an inspection which stated that ‘Pupils are supported by caring staff who know them well”, “Pupils know that learning is important and apply themselves diligently to their work’” and noted that the relationships between staff and students are ‘very strong and behaviour around the academy is of a high standard.’

We aim to promote the highest standards of academic achievement through inspiring teaching and learning, with a curriculum designed to stretch and enrich our students’ experience. Our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs, and we have won numerous awards as a school including the Carnegie Mental Health Silver Award, Anti-Bullying Alliance Bronze Award and being accredited with the prestigious IQM Centre of Excellence status, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us

Put simply, we take pride in serving the local community, ensuring everyone has a right to learn.

Despite being Outstanding, we are constantly looking at ways to improve. Help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy. All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
