Didcot Girls’ School is a dynamic school. In December 2015, the school was judged to be Outstanding. As Ofsted recognised, we invest in all of our staff: ‘Staff have exceptional opportunities for professional development. Staff feel valued and really like working in the school. Morale is very high.'(Ofsted).

We are a values-driven school, committed to high quality teaching and learning and respectful relationships within an inclusive learning community. Developing stimulating and student-centred teaching and learning is at the centre of our school development work. We work hard to ensure that all girls’ education enables our students to develop confidence, leadership skills and high levels of aspiration.

Summer 2022 GCSE results were superb with 88% of all students achieving 4+ in English and Maths, and 72% doing the same at 5+. Results at A level in the mixed sixth form shared with our partner school, St Birinus School, are also extremely strong with 44% of grades awarded as A* or A and 68% achieving Grades A*-B. These results place us as one of the highest performing schools in the county.

The position

We are looking to recruit a Cover Supervisor whose primary role is to provide supervision for students whose teacher is absent and to ensure purposeful and successful learning during this time. There is also the opportunity for candidates to extend the role to act as a form tutor. Flexibility to take on a variety of roles at those times when there are no absent teachers is required. This may include administrative tasks, invigilation and individual or small group support for students in lessons across the curriculum.

You will be joining a strong team of Cover Supervisors. Excellent training will be provided through an induction programme. We are looking for someone who enjoys building strong and effective relationships with young people and is able to develop students’ learning, using the resources provided. Ideally you will have prior experience working with young people. Resilience, flexibility and a good grasp of English and Maths are required, as is the ability to take on a role of authority whilst maintaining positive relationships. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a fulfilling role working with young people and to be part of a vibrant and supportive school community.

The post is permanent, term-time only, remunerated on Grade 6 and with the possibility of being remunerated on Grade 7 with the additional role of form tutor. However, the role would also be suitable for anyone planning to train to teach at a later date and can be offered both on a part-term and/or a temporary basis to the right candidate. Additional training and CPD opportunities will be offered, as appropriate.

Salary range:

Grade 6 - £15,749.41 to £17,389.16 per annum (depending on experience)

Grade 7 (includes tutor responsibilities) - £17,504.82 to £18,947.15 per annum (depending on experience)

If you are applying for this as a part-time/ or wishing to work on a fixed term basis, please provide details of your preference in your application form.

Working hours: 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday

Application process:

Please send a completed application form paying particular attention to the “skills and experience” section to Frances Adley, PA to Headteacher at vacancy@didcotgirls.oxon.sch.uk

Application deadline:

Please apply as soon as possible; applications will be reviewed on receipt and appointment made following successful interview.

Didcot Girls’ School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects staff working in all its schools to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check along with standard pre-employment safeguarding checks.
