Here at The Costello School we know the importance of our people and how their work increases the life chances of the young people we serve. The role of Cover Supervisor is integral to the smooth operation of the school and the enhanced opportunities we give to our students.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual. The role is primarily to oversee classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, actively supporting the progress of students and recognising that every lesson is a rich opportunity to learn.

This is a demanding but highly rewarding role, as you will be dealing with students of all ages and abilities in different subjects. You will have a varied role within the school, supervising classes for short term absence, providing learning support for specific curriculum teams, examination invigilation and assisting on school visits. Support and guidance will be given to the appointed person to ensure provision of a safe and productive learning environment for all students. There will be occasions where you will be required to supervise students during breakfast club in the mornings and the library in the afternoons.

The ideal candidate will have 5 GSCEs at grades A-C, or equivalent, with sound numeracy, literacy and ICT skills.  The ability to communicate in a professional and effective manner is essential.  Experience of behaviour/classroom management and working with large groups of 11-16 year olds is preferred but not essential as training will be given to the right candidate.

In return we recognise your skills and commitment to us:

- Wellbeing days

- A strong and extensive CPD programme

- Opportunities to undertake afternoon wellbeing sessions

- Great facilities

- Being part of something bigger as part of the high performing Bohunt Education Trust

- Amazing students and Wonderful colleagues

Please note the daily hours outlined include a 35 minute unpaid daily lunch break.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 26th May 2021 (11.00am).

We reserve the right to invite suitable applicants to interview prior to the application deadline.

Bohunt Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people and requires all staff and volunteers to share and demonstrate this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and other relevant pre-employment checks.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.

Enriching Lives

At Costello we believe that every child deserves the very best education and challenge the idea that social context should be a barrier to their academic success. We exist first and foremost to improve the life chances of young people through excellent care, teaching and guidance and believe that the relationship between home and school is paramount. We are here to make sure that our students go on to be successful and happy in what whatever they do.

Who we are

Our culture is built on trust and cooperation between all stakeholders, enabling us to take risks, be honest, ask the difficult questions and support each other when necessary. As leaders of learning we do not sit back and continue to do the same things year in year out, especially if we know we could do better. We invest heavily in CPD and training and have fantastic links with other schools and professional organisations. New ideas and approaches are welcomed with open arms and coaching is used to unlock potential. We work very closely with our ‘family’ of partner schools and are currently the strategic lead for a unique teaching and learning project.

Our Location

Costello is nestled in amongst luscious rolling hills of Hampshire on the outer fringes of the vibrant county town of Basingstoke. Look one way and you have extensive shopping, culture, bars, restaurants and sport. Look the other and you are deep in the countryside with cosy village pubs, beautiful walks, rivers and lots of places to explore.

Where else can you be living the high life of the city one minute and be deep in the heart of the New Forest the next? Served by fantastic fast rail and road links to the South Coast, London and beyond, with the M3 and M4 close by, Basingstoke is the gateway to the south.

We hate losing great people but equally encourage staff to shoot for the stars and if that means you moving on somewhere else, after a period of time, then we get it and we will help you. We get people from all sorts of backgrounds joining us and quite often they start doing one thing and then move into a different area.

What next?

We are always happy to give you a tour, let you get a feel for the place and meet potential future colleagues and students.
