Job overview

Ballet and opera capture the deepest human emotions. The Royal Opera House wants to share these art forms, and their power to thrill, move and excite, with as many people as we can. Our Learning and Participation team offers people of all ages the chance to discover and question our artforms, and to create their own responses to opera and ballet.

Create and Sing is the Royal Opera House`s flagship national learning programme based on dramatic-singing. The programme provides creative CPD training to school teachers across the country and empowers them to deliver an exciting, curriculum-based 10-week course to their class; the Create and Sing Project Manager will spear-head nurturing these relationships in the music and education sector alongside ROH colleagues and share with teaching professionals free ROH skills-building resources.

This position is to lead upon the Create and Sing programme; extending the programme`s reach to provide arts & cultural access to young people and their teachers across the UK and managing the development of new schemes of work for KS1-KS3 classes, based upon the repertoire of the Royal Opera.

The Project Manager will be a dynamic individual responsible for collaborating to develop dramatic singing schemes of work for ROH`s digital Learning Platform; managing creative practitioners; co-coordinating and designing teacher training days, managing school and stakeholder relationships; monitoring and overseeing the Create and Sing Programme budget and the evaluation process.

This key role will work closely with the Head of National Programmes to identify and develop partnerships for scaling up the programme and the L&P Opera Manager to ensure artistic and strategic alignment to other areas of the opera learning portfolio; to talent development programmes; and the work of The Royal Opera.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the chosen candidate to bring their experience of music facilitation into schools and project management skills into one of the UK`s most dynamic theatres.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Significant experience of managing flagship arts education projects with schools
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the National Curriculum for music with particular reference to singing, singing strategies and dramatic singing
  • Understanding and appreciation of opera and its potential in education.
  • Excellent project management skills with strong organisational, administrative and time management skills and proven ability to work on several projects simultaneously to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with fluent English and adept and nurturing successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Financial acumen with experience of effectively managing budgets
