Curriculum Leader -Computer Science

Required September 2021

Pay Scale - MPS/UPS plus TLR 2.1 (£2873)

We are looking for an energetic and hardworking Curriculum Leader of Computer Science to start September 2021. We are interested in talking to experienced teachers looking to take their next step to a middle leader post as well as teachers who are established department heads.  Our ideal candidate will have a passionate and uncompromising commitment to pupil achievement and be a believer in the potential of young people, with a mind-set that all young people can experience success. North Cambridge Academy is a small but growing school of 550 pupils where every member of staff makes a profound difference to children’s life chances.  NCA is graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted with ‘Outstanding’ leadership.

Computer Science is thriving at North Cambridge Academy with our students achieving excellent progression and examination results and benefiting from our links with STEM organisations. Our aim is to inspire our pupils to develop a strong interest in the technology around them, so that they are well prepared for a future world reliant on technology.

We aim to inspire a passion for Computing in our KS3 program, including ensuring strong computer literacy skills as well as developing the essential skills of problem solving, solution design, and solution development, preparing pupils for success at GCSE Computer Science. Our KS3 program currently includes website design, introduction to networks and the internet, problem solving and programming using Scratch in Year 7 and Python in Year 8. We are always looking for ways to improve the KS3 program to keep pace with technology and develop a strong interest in the world of computing.

At KS4 we follow the OCR GCSE Computer Science scheme of work and focus on developing skills in problem solving and algorithmic design, believing that a computational approach to problem solving not only supports progressing into the computing industry, but is also a lifelong skill.

We are ideally located in Cambridge, a city at the heart of technology and we have forged strong relationships with Cambridge University, Stephen Perse Foundation, Amazon (Alexa) and the global company ARM. We regularly take part in STEM competitions such as FXP (Future Experience Points Games Design), Raspberry PI Industry events and Lego League.

We are looking for an inspirational candidate who can further develop a love for technology and computing at KS3 and grow this into a desire to study computer science at KS4, developing links to the real world of everyday technology, what the future may hold, and how this translates into successful careers. Continuing to build strong links with technology companies in Cambridge, and participating in technology based events will be a key part of this.

A strong desire to work with other departments within North Cambridge Academy to develop pathways into media, games design, and robotics is also a consideration for this role.

We are committed to the pursuit of excellence and are team players with a strong desire to work collaboratively. North Cambridge Academy is at the heart of the community where every child is known, valued and supported.
