Job overview

Permanent, Full time

Salary: £26,195 - £42,430 (BOA Main Pay Scale) plus an additional allowance (based on experience)

Birmingham Ormiston Academy is a 14-19 academy specialising in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts.  The academy opened in September 2011 and has over 1020 students on roll (359 at KS4 and 662 at Post-16).  Students’ results speak for themselves and are well above the national average.  Our intake is 100% selective, based on aptitude within the specialism rather than academic ability.  As a result, we are unique in our admissions. We are seeking to appoint a Curriculum Leader for Games Design and New Media (GDNM) to lead the delivery of this specialist Digital Arts pathway within the academy.

All BOA students are selected through aptitude in their chosen arts specialism and will

follow either a Creative, Digital or Performing Arts pathway.  All Post-16 Digital Arts students study towards a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Digital Media Production, with Games Design and New Media students pursuing units and projects relevant to their specialism.  At Key Stage 4, Digital Arts students study a Level 2 Tech Award in Creative Media Production, where some learners will choose to specialise in Games Design and New Media in their second year for one of their modules.

You will be keen to explore the cutting-edge of industry practice with your learners, building relationships with our industry partners to ensure students access state-of-the-art technologies and learn the latest processes and workflows across a variety of new medias and genres. You will have a passion for collaboration and be committed to exploring the ways the Digital Arts experience can be enhanced by working with other curriculum areas within the academy.  We are looking for an exceptional professional who will play a crucial role in shaping the core curriculum and specialist pathways of our vibrant institution.

You will have high expectations, be able to manage colleagues and work effectively as part of a team.  You will be prepared to get fully involved in the life of our busy academy.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to the future of education within a world-class academy.  If you share the academy’s vision and ambition, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families and the community then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Applications should be made online. Please use the supporting statement to detail why you have decided to apply for the position and to demonstrate how your skills, knowledge, personal achievements and previous experience match the person specification.

Closing date: 5th February 2021 09h00

Start date: 1st September 2021 (or sooner)

Birmingham Ormiston Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.  All appointments are subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
