Job overview

Curriculum Leader for Business Studies and IT at Ursuline College

Due to expansion, we are looking to appoint an experienced practitioner to lead this important subject area within the school.  This will involve teaching at Key stage 3,4 and 5.  The successful candidate will have a track record of the successful delivery of GCSE and Post 16 Courses.  We would wish to develop new courses in the subject area to meet the demands of the new accountability measures at GCSE and to meet the needs of both level 2 and level 3 courses post 16.  There is a TLR2B available with this position.

Ursuline College is situated in Westgate on Sea, Kent.  We have a fast rail service to London and Ramsgate.  Canterbury is 11 miles away for City life.  We are a caring school where we promote the Serviam Ethos.  We have a chapel on the school grounds which we share with the Ursuline Sisters.  Staff can use the chapel to have time to reflect.  We welcome all faiths and respect each others beliefs.  Mass is held daily at 5.30pm with the Sisters.  Staff are welcome to attend. You do not have to be Catholic to apply for this position.

Ursuline College has a dynamic Sports hall with a nearby Astro Turf football pitch on the school grounds.  Staff play football (mostly male staff) indoors in the Sport Hall on Fridays afterschool.  The Sports hall is hired out continuously so a height of activity is produced from this area every day after school.  It is used by Thanet Schools and the local community, the Thanet School Games Officer operates from Ursuline College.

Teachers organise trips that benefit the students and recently some of our students have just returned from a visit to Cologne in Germany to see the Christmas Markets, Chocolate Factory and the local Cathedral.  We have an active DofE department and students have completed Bronze and Silver awards.

The 6th form students have their own nearly furbished Study Centre in a separate building, with space for studying and using computers for school work and coursework.  All study time is supervised by teaching staff.

The IT department is situated in St Ursula's building which has two floors.  There are two IT class rooms and an IT office for staff.  Business Studies is held in Hatton House in a recently furbished spacious classroom.  The thriving Art department is located nearby.  The recently furbished Music block is situated on the ground floor.

The Science department has developed a Science Garden Club.  Students are encouraged to participate in maintaining the garden and to learn about growing plants and vegetables.  Modern Foreign Languages, Religious Education, English and Design Technology are all located in St Ursula's.

The Maths and Humanities subjects are situated in Hatton House which is the main building where we have a team of competent Administrative staff, all working to help a smooth transition in school life.

Viewing is welcomed if possible, to experience the feel of Ursuline College and school life.  If you are interested in applying for this position, please complete the application forms and send in as soon as possible.  Visit our website ;- www.ursuline.kent.sch.uk
