John Spence Community High School is an ‘Outstanding‘ school (Ofsted, October 2011). We are a very successful Sports College with a growing reputation.

Due to internal restructuring of the SLT we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed curriculum leader for Science to teach across the subject and lead the department. This new post will provide an opportunity to manage and lead a very successful and well established department (recently awarded the Science Gold Mark) through a time of curriculum change. This is a full time permanent appointment.

This is an exciting time to be joining John Spence Community High School as we have recently moved into a brand new school with state of the art facilities.

John Spence Community High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As such an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant checks deemed appropriate.

John Spence Community High School is situated in North Shields, Tyne and Wear. It is a foundation, community school for 11-16 year olds. It is a non-denominational establishment. At the moment, there are approximately 880 students enrolled at John Spence Community High School.

“The curriculum is broad and varied. Pupils are guided well onto a range of courses at key stage 4. The school’s ‘Fit for Life’ programme promotes personal development effectively. There is an impressive range of extra-curricular activities, particularly in sport.

Procedures to safeguard pupils are rigorous. Vulnerable pupils are supported very well to engage fully in school life.

Pupils’ attendance is above the national average. In the past, the proportion of disadvantaged pupils who were regularly absent from school has been high, but it is now reducing.”
