Applications are invited from a dynamic, enthusiastic and student focused-leader to lead our vibrant and committed Geography department.  This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join and lead a department from their current role in a thriving school or alternatively for a candidate who may be looking for the opportunity to secure a promotion.  Geography is a very popular subject especially at KS4. For a second consecutive year in 2018, our results were well above the national average with 38% achieving grades 9-7 and our Progress 8 score is +0.63 which ranks us as a ‘well above average school’. The growth and continuing success of the Geography department has resulted in students choosing this as an A-level option.

One of the strengths of the department is its commitment to developing a passion for the study of Geography in the real world. This includes a range of activities and field trips. 

Copthall School prides itself on educating 21st century women for successful careers in STEM, human, social and health sciences, performing arts and creative industries.  Our flourishing Sixth Form which is in the top 12% of schools for A-Level results offers both A-Level and Vocational pathways and we boast an excellent success rate in University applications. 

Copthall has seen rapid improvements in standards across the school. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:

• the ability to enthuse students with a love of learning 

• be an expert practitioner in the classroom

• have excellent interpersonal skills with pupils and adults in and out of the classroom

• be able to lead and develop our strong team to continue to build an enthusiastic and vibrant department

• a commitment to, and be passionate about, maintaining and developing high standards of achievement for learners of all abilities across all Key stages

• an ability to think strategically and inspire and promote high expectations to raise standards

• the ability to take a lead role in quality assurance within the Department, including lesson observation, work scrutiny, student voice and learning walks

• experience of using assessment to track progress throughout KS3, 4 and 5

• commitment to our ethos of high expectations and ‘no excuses’ with the belief that every child can succeed

• the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of students.

We have approximately 1000 students on role, 120 of which are enrolled in our thriving Sixth Form which is in the top 12% of schools for A Level results. We offer both A-Level and Vocational pathways and we boast an excellent success rate in University applications.

Situated in Mill Hill, Barnet we have fantastic outdoor space as well as access to sporting facilities at Allianz Park.
