Job overview

Trinity Academy Cathedral

Curriculum Leader / Lead Teacher English

Leadership L1–L12

Trinity Academy Cathedral is an outstanding and high performing secondary school.  In 2022 Ofsted graded the academy outstanding in all areas.  This followed other recent accolades such as SIAMS Excellent in 2020 and the TES Secondary School of the Year Award winner in 2019.  We have also consistently been in the top 10% nationally for progress.  The academy is growing in popularity following its success and is looking to expand and develop, attracting the best people to work alongside the already committed staff to continue our journey and maintain and further improve the excellent provision on offer.  Trinity Academy Cathedral is part of the Trinity Multi-Academy Trust which has been a successful partnership since 2016.

We are now offering a very exciting opportunity to an experienced leader of English, looking for progression into whole school leadership of teaching and learning.  For the first year, the successful candidate will take up Curriculum Leader (English), as a maternity cover, and will then join the whole school teaching and learning team, as a Lead Teacher English (on the equivalent pay scale).  This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate leader of English, to move into whole school teaching and learning.  We would welcome the opportunity to show candidates around, and discuss this unique role in more detail, so please request a visit with the Vice Principal for Teaching and Learning if you would like to find out more.

This post will appeal to candidates who have already led English in a school, who are now looking for leadership opportunities across the curriculum and may have aspirations to take up senior leadership in the future.  It may also suit candidates, who have significant experience as a Deputy Curriculum Leader of English, who are ready to take up Curriculum Leadership in a strong team.  The successful candidate will join an experienced and highly motivated team of expert English teachers, and will lead the team during maternity cover, to achieve the best possible outcomes In English.

What can we offer you?

  • Full support from a dedicated team of senior leaders and a large pastoral team
  • A first-class behaviour for learning system

Trinity Academy Cathedral joined the Trinity Multi Academy Trust in 2016 and soon showed a dramatic improvement by becoming ‘The Secondary School of the Year’ in the country by TES in 2019, followed by SIAMS Excellent in 2020. The Principal and staff set an ambition to be outstanding, consistently improving academically and pastorally.

In May 2022, after six years of hard work by staff and students, the academy was awarded Outstanding in all areas: this was a testament to setting high standards, a compelling curriculum and full pastoral programme to prepare students for the future.

Our academy is now a place of high expectations and excellent progress that places us comfortably in the top 5% of UK secondary schools every year. Behaviour is excellent and achievement is high.

Guided by the MAT’s core values and our own strong Christian ethos, we work hard to ensure our students become happy, fulfilled and well-rounded people. Innovative initiatives such as Masters of Recall and CAPA Juniors (Performing Arts pathway) help maximise opportunities for every child.

High quality CPD is an integral part of the staff experience at TAC, as it is in all Trinity schools. Our bespoke CPD curriculum is tailored to the needs of individual staff at all career stages. We are heavily led by research into how learning happens, and continually refine our practice to ensure we are masters in the complex craft of teaching. We invest significantly in ‘Subject Passion’ sessions, through which CPD is delivered with an expert disciplinary lens.

ECTs are supported through a powerful and impactful training programme, which includes a 1:1 mentor, plentiful opportunities to see others in the classroom, conferences, and additional PPA time. All new staff also benefit from a supportive induction programme throughout the first term and beyond, recognising that no matter your experience, we are all novices when we start in a new school!

We are highly committed to staff well-being and workload, and through our staff well-being charter, we strive to ensure Trinity Academy Cathedral is a supportive, fulfilling and inspiring place to work.
