Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and inspirational teacher to lead the successful Music department and to teach across all Key Stages. The Music department runs BTEC Music at KS4 and KS5 and Performing Arts at KS4. There is an extensive extracurricular programme and a good uptake of peripatetic music lessons, which the successful candidate would need to sustain.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the region’s highest performing schools; in May 2014 Ofsted graded every aspect of Churchill Community College as ‘outstanding.’ In addition, we are a Teaching School and lead The Great North Maths Hub. Our Executive Headteacher is a National Leader of Education. Our value added data, published in January 2017, places us as the 4th top school in England for pupil performance, measured against similar schools and 2nd top school in the north-east of England measured against all schools. The college is recognised for the outstanding professional development programme we offer our staff.

The successful candidate will be:

  • An excellent practitioner with a passion for Music
  • Committed to the highest standard of achievement for all students
  • An outstanding communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • An enthusiastic team-player, self-motivated and committed to further professional development
  • Positive in attitude, resilient, a problem-solver and good-humoured
  • Committed to the development of Music beyond lessons e.g. extracurricular activities, school productions and links with primary schools
  • Committed to the development and progress of other staff who teach within the department

The Music department enjoys a reputation for excellent, dynamic teaching and learning. Achievement is strong and the post offers a superb opportunity for an energetic creative leader with excellent skills to develop further within a positive and supportive environment.

All staff that join the school benefit from a carefully structured programme of training and support and are provided with a school iPad.

The closing date is 9.30am on Wednesday 7th March 2018. Job packs are available to download from our website www.churchillcommunitycollege.org. Completed applications should be returned to Heather Bell, Headteacher’s PA, via email: heather.bell@ntlp.org.uk or by post:

Churchill Community College is an 11-18yrs comprehensive school in North Tyneside.

Churchill was inspected by Ofsted in 2019 as a ‘good’ school; previously the school had been judged ‘outstanding’, and whilst the judgement of ‘good’ was very fair we have the aspiration of ‘excellence in all we do’ and are working towards being 'outstanding' again.

Churchill is very much a community school, and whilst the community we serve is enormously proud and supportive of the school, a significant proportion of our students come from low income or deprived households, with more than 40% of our cohort eligible for the Pupil Premium.

We aim to make all our young people feel completely safe, secure, valued and appreciative of the many opportunities their education here can afford them.

We set high standards in all areas and expect the very best from all members of our learning community. In return, we aim to provide excellent teaching and up-to-date curriculum provision with high quality pastoral care and an outstanding range of opportunities beyond the classroom for all learners. We believe these are the hallmarks of a truly successful school.
