Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, dynamic and inspirational teacher of Technology to join Sandbach High School & Sixth Form College as Curriculum Leader of Design & Technology. We are looking for a well-qualified graduate with high expectations to lead a dynamic team.

This 11-18 school is a high achieving comprehensive academy which has been judged as Outstanding in three successive inspections. Pupils in both the all-girls main school and the large Sixth Form, which also admits boys, make significant progress during their time here. The new Curriculum Leader will be an outstanding teacher who is able to motivate and inspire students of all abilities.

The Design & Technology Curriculum Area offers Food Technology, Textiles, Graphics, Engineering and Product Design across all key stages and Hospitality & Catering at KS4 and KS5. This post offers flexibility for teaching Textiles and/or Food Technology/Hospitality across all key stages, including A Level or BTEC, for a suitably qualified and experienced teacher.

For candidates with a background in Textiles, talent, skill and experience in design and construction would be essential. For those whose strength is Food, a good understanding of both food preparation and cooking along with food and drink service would be an advantage. We have a purpose built commercial restaurant, open to the public once a fortnight, where catering students under teacher supervision have the opportunity to gain real life experience of the industry.

All candidates would need the flexibility to teach other material areas within Design & Technology at KS3.

There is a strong ethos of teamwork, sharing of good practice and a commitment to providing the best opportunities to ensure the success of our students at all levels across the school. To be successful, you must be a highly self-motivated, talented and dedicated teacher with the ability to lead, manage and inspire a successful Design & Technology Curriculum Area.

About Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College

Our Learning Community

Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College enjoys a pleasant situation in the historic market town of Sandbach. As a community we work together to create a secure and friendly environment in which individuals can grow intellectually, emotionally and socially.

We take pride in being a caring and well-ordered community where everyone is encouraged to develop self-awareness and personal responsibility and play a full part in the life of the school. Our Code of Conduct is based on respect, courtesy and consideration. We make sure that students who work hard, help others and show responsibility in their behaviour are properly recognised through our awards system. Commitment and success in sport or music are celebrated in the award of distinctive colours badges.

Our extensive curriculum is broad and balanced, giving all students the opportunity to develop their potential. A wide range of learning and teaching strategies is used to actively involve students in the learning process. Progress is carefully assessed and monitored.

Our Students

Young people entering Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College join a community which aims to put their wellbeing first. Students have a dedicated Pupil Reception area and on-site careers advisers as well as access to specialist counselling services and health professionals.

Each year group is guided by a team of form tutors led by an Achievement Coordinator. Their aim is to ensure that every individual makes progress in their achievement and personal development.

We listen to the views of our students . An extensive student questionnaire is used to inform school improvement planning and members of the school council play an important role in representing the pupil voice and contribute to the decision-making process.

Students were consulted about changes to the school uniform and the findings of student voice projects about learning and teaching are influential.

Our extensive programme of enrichment activities provides further opportunities for students personal development.

Outside the classroom.

We believe that a full involvement in school life fosters confidence, self-esteem and positive attitudes so we offer a very varied programme of extra-curricular activities. These take place at lunchtime, after school and in the holidays. We also encourage involvement in fundraising and other community projects and are proud of our students record of helping others.
