Job overview

Are you an enthusiastic, motivated and well qualified teacher of Design Technology, looking to develop their career?  We have a position that is ideal for you. Technology is an important element of the curriculum, one which will enhance the life opportunities of our young people. The successful candidate will be able to lead the department; have a passion for ensuring young people reach their potential, yet believes they can exceed these expectations; providing encouragement and guidance to achieve this.

Development of staff is important to us. Our whole school CPD project with the Schools, Students and Teachers network [SSAT] sees all staff working in Teaching and Learning Communities [TLCs] to share best practice; specifically focussed on formative assessment practices.

Blessed William Howard as a member of the Stafford Sixth Form Partnership (comprising five schools) works with colleagues across the town in developing teaching. Alongside another local school, the partnership schools are involved in a SCITT based in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

The school’s commitment to the development of staff has seen a number of colleagues completing Masters/ professional qualifications in recent years. Support for these is available where a link to the school improvement plan is demonstrated.

There are great opportunities at our school for staff to be involved in the wider life of the school; this includes leading children in charitable work and house competitions as a form tutor in our vertical house system; residential experience with students (e.g. retreats); a highly popular Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme programme; visits to European destinations (modern languages and skiing trips); public speaking competitions, many sports teams and many performing arts opportunities. These experiences have supported many colleagues in their ambition to cross to the upper pay range.

We are supportive of staff – providing access to childcare vouchers as part of the salary scheme, negotiating discounts with our excellent canteen and creating the conditions for staff to feel secure in:

There is a warm atmosphere and the quality of relationships between all members of the school community are a particular strength. Pupils and staff are friendly, helpful, polite and welcoming to visitors.” Diocesan Section 48 Report (December 2017)

Blessed William Howard is a great school. We hope you will come and have a look at what we have to offer you, as well as telling us what you can bring to our school. We look forward to receiving your application.

You must submit a Catholic Education Service application form for this post.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and anyone applying to work in our school is expected to share this commitment.

This position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Further details regarding this check are available from schools or by visiting www.crb.gov.uk

About Blessed William Howard Catholic School

Our school is a successful 11-18 Catholic High School with 839 on roll (110 in the Sixth Form).  Blessed William Howard Catholic High School has been providing secondary education in the heart of Stafford for over 50 years.

We serve the Catholic community in a wide geographical area in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, stretching up to the village of Brewood on the edge of Wolverhampton, 13 miles to the south and up to the town of Stone, 8 miles to the north. Our admissions policy enables parents who want a faith education for their child to join our community.

Through the teachings of the Catholic Church and our vibrant liturgical life we open paths of discovery, helping children to understand themselves, others and how they may live fulfilled lives, making a positive difference through who and how they are.  Our school offers a haven where all are welcome to flourish as individuals academically, socially, morally and spiritually.

The school became part of Holy Trinity Catholic Multi Academy Company in March 2016.
