Job overview

We are looking to appoint an innovative Curriculum Leader of Maths who is dedicated to providing the best possible opportunities to our students. Our focus is always on student progression and attainment and the successful candidate will be committed to achieving this.  You will have the ability to inspire, enthuse and encourage students to enjoy their learning, leading to a desire to achieve their highest potential.  This is an exciting time to join our school and help to raise the levels of attainment and aspirations of all of our students.

Your new school

Park Lane Academy is a small state of the art school with 500 students and fantastic facilities. Both students and visitors to school tell us that Park Lane has a ‘family feeling’ about it. We pride ourselves in the fact that we are a learning family. Our staff know and support every student through the challenges which education can bring to them.

We were delighted to welcome our new Principal in September 2017 and are excited to see the rapid programme of improvements and development already taking effect. She brings 25 years of experience in education and has a proven track record of supporting schools in challenge as well as spending 5 years on the leadership team of an ‘outstanding’ school. She is absolutely committed to improving the opportunities for all our students and staff.

Your new department

There are 5 members of staff in maths, plus the HoD post. The majority of the team are experienced but there are challenges, as our maths results have been well below expected levels for the last 3 years, however, the team are now part of the maths hub at the South Pennine Academies Trust where all Heads of Maths across the trust academies share resources, meet regularly, complete QA assessments collaboratively in order to build capacity and strengthen the team further. This is an exciting time for Park Lane and the benefits this brings are immense, adding their expertise and ideas as well as opening up further experiences for all our staff and students.  There will be opportunities to work across the Trust and all middle leaders will have access to the MAT middle leader development programme.

Our commitment to your development

You will have opportunities to work alongside SLEs from the Trust and gain expert support from the best in Education. We also hold Trust-wide CPD sessions and have a shared resource iCloud system, to enable you to work with your colleagues across the MAT and gain their opinions on your strategies and resources, sharing effective ideas. South Pennine Academies School Effectiveness Team offers coaching to both middle and senior leaders and we engage in Ambition Schools Leadership Programmes for those aspiring to further their careers.

Our exciting future

In summer 2018, Park Lane Academy will join in partnership with South Pennine Academies Trust to raise levels of attainment and aspirations of all students. As our sponsor, the Trust is very well placed to create a unique institution characterised by high achievement and success. The Trust has a national reputation for excellence and has a solid track record of partnership working with employers, universities and local schools.  The Trust is being led by our CEO Jane Acklam OBE, who alongside being honoured by the Queen for her services to education, was also winner of Head Teacher of the Year for the North of England previously.

We are confident that new teachers joining us will feel welcomed and happy and we encourage prospective applicants to visit school prior to applying.
