Job overview

DO YOU WANT TO BUILD ROCKETS..?

Townley Grammar School is a multicultural girls’ selective school with specialism in Mathematics and Computing with Performing Arts.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and passionate Curriculum Leader for Physics. This is an ideal position for a dedicated and enterprising teacher, which will give them a fast track route into leadership training.

As well as being an innovative classroom practitioner, the successful candidate will have a knowledgeable and creative approach to future development, the ability to inspire and motivate, and be a strong team player. This is an excellent opportunity to educate bright and engaging students in a large and progressive selective school for girls.  There are approximately 1500 students on roll, including a co-educational sixth form of over 400 of which approximately half of the sixth form students take a Science subject at A-level. The ability to teach 2 sciences up to GCSE and Physics to A Level would be desirable.

Rated as Outstanding by OFSTED in November 2015, key findings include:

  • Teaching is outstanding. Teachers are passionate about their subjects, have high expectations and excellent subject knowledge. They support the leadership of the academy in its ambitious vision of success and the very best for all pupils.
  • A particular strength of the academy is its encouragement of STEM subjects

Our STEM provision extends beyond the curriculum with exciting fun-packed off curriculum STEM Days, a highly successful STEM Leadership program and numerous clubs and events throughout the academic year. Our recent ‘Y7 Magic of STEM’ Day and our celebration of British Science Week videos can be seen here: http://www.townleygrammar.org.uk/students/curriculum/stem/

We have exciting and innovative relationships with science specialist schools in Russia and Japan, we have built rockets with the Moscow State University and have worked with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Los Angeles to name but a few. Our school can offer exciting international opportunities to interested scientists.

We provide a full and robust induction programme for all new members of staff, as part of the school’s Staff Development Programme, with further support for staff new to the teaching profession. We encourage professional development across the school including opportunities to share ideas for improving teaching and learning.

We offer a bespoke and personalised range of pathway opportunities, including NPQML, NPQSL and opportunities to study for a Diploma or Masters with Buckingham University.  This position will provide a sound foundation for further promotion within the Odyssey Trust and beyond.

Townley Grammar School is committed to the wellbeing and happiness of staff.  We have an extensive programme of wellbeing sessions for all staff and are committed to providing a positive and supportive working environment for all.

The deadline for applications is Sunday 27th January, with interviews taking place Monday 4th  February 2019.
