Job overview

Eastlea Community School is seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Mathematics Curriculum Team Leader to lead, manage, build and develop a successful Maths Team. This vacancy has arisen as a result of the incumbent’s promotion to a Senior Leadership position in another school.

The Mathematics Curriculum area is comprised of very strong practitioners who have improved Maths at the school a great deal; with the A*-C pass climbing as high as 74% and the expected levels of progress was 84%, which was one of the highest in the borough. In recent times the results have declined. The person appointed will be tasked with ensuring that this recent trend is reversed.

Eastlea is a vibrant inclusive co-educational comprehensive school for 1200 students. It is supported by an energetic and committed governing body and a strong leadership team. Students are articulate, friendly, polite and energetic.

In the 2014 OFSTED inspection, Eastlea Community School was judged as ‘good’ where students learn well because they have very good relationships with teachers. They feel that teachers are always there to help them. Average results, over the last 3 years, are 65% 3+ LOP, 27% 4+ LOP and 56% A*-C.

As the Curriculum Team Leader, you will have a proven track record as an excellent practitioner and be able to claim substantial success with exam groups over a sustained period. You will be conversant with the use of data to identify and challenge underachievement. You will be able to inspire and motivate students and staff. You will need to be committed to making a difference to the lives of young people, to raise standards, expectations and achievement and be able to think strategically and creatively. You will have experience and have the capacity to lead the entire Maths Curriculum effectively. You will enjoy challenge and see potential rather than barriers to learning.

For an informal discussion about this post please contact the school on the above number. Visits to the school prior to application are very welcome.

Closing date: 7 October 2016.

Eastlea Community School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school in the London borough of Newham, serving students between the ages of 11-16. The secondary school, situated in Canning Town, has the capacity to accommodate 1200 students. Eastlea has a large number of high needs students including PMLD.

We pride ourselves in being a diverse school with over 80 different languages spoken amongst our students, many of these students are mid-phase admissions having newly arrived in the country.  We understand that our students need to be prepared for the fast evolving future where vital skills like resilience and independent thinking are as important as core skills and teamwork, and so in Key Stage 3 we follow the National Curriculum for Years 7, 8 and 9, with GCSE studies beginning at the start of year 10.

Key Stage 4 offers learning pathways to best suit individual students. English Baccalaureate is offered and students are encouraged to take a language and history/geography, our curriculum at this stage is designed to give students the best possible preparation for Key Stage 5 study.
