Job overview

The successful applicant will:

  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education;
  • hold current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers; and
  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment.

St Peter Claver College has a thriving and highly successful Dance program, with Dance as a Curriculum subject from Year 7 – 12 and offering both the General and Applied Dance subjects in Year 11 and 12. The role requires a strong understanding of Dance Curriculum which is governed by ACARA for Years 7 – 10. An understanding of, or experience in teaching Year 11 and 12 (both the existing 2010 Dance Syllabus, and the newly developed 2019 Dance Syllabus) would be beneficial, but is not a requirement for this role. The College has a strong extra-curricular Dance program and Performance Teams which the successful candidate will be required to contribute to. Experience choreographing pieces for practical assessment tasks and performance routines in one or more of the following styles would be highly beneficial: hip hop, contemporary, musical theatre and jazz. The ability to teach Religious Education and another subject in the Arts would be an advantage. Core duties include: • Provide theoretical and practical Dance curriculum lessons aligned with the given syllabus. • Conduct student assessments, marking and reporting, as well as the ability to put together submissions of student folios for QCAA moderation/verification/confirmation processes. • Contribute to the development of current dance courses on offer, through the updating and development of resources and assessment tasks – particularly, working with other dance staff developing assessment instruments for the new senior syllabus as these tasks will be required for endorsement as of August 2019. • Choreographing dance routines for extra-curricular performance teams, auditioning and patterning of routines and liaising with dance department staff for costuming needs. Applicants who are short-listed and interviewed need to be prepared to be involved in a second-phase interview process, which will involve choreographing a short section of dance to a group of dancers, for the panel.
