Job overview

We are looking for someone who enjoys finding clever ways to solve problems, thinks systematically and wants to be part of a school that loves maths, computing and science. The person we’re looking for is probably (like us) a bit geeky about things like Excel tricks and enjoys finding creative and neat solutions to problems. They will understand the importance of keeping data accurate, tidy and meaningful, and might also be interested in learning more about data science and computer systems. Hopefully they will have a sense of fun and will enjoy being part of a team with a strong sense of purpose.

This Data Manager role also includes taking charge of the Examinations Officer role, which is relatively straightforward in that we only offer four A-Levels, and all students follow pretty much the same courses. You will be supported in this by two experienced and friendly administrators who have been Examinations Officers themselves. No prior experience of the Examinations Officer role is expected and ample support will be provided.

We are a highly motivated, friendly and very supportive staff team. We are motivated by the joint purpose of making a difference to the educational opportunities for disadvantaged students in the region, and ensuring that the most able students have a suitably inspiring and challenging education. We’re privileged to work with a wonderful group of talented and hardworking students from a wide range of backgrounds. Many of our students are from families with little or no history of higher education and we are focused on removing barriers for them and enabling them to receive teaching from engaging academic experts.

The key responsibilities, will include tasks as outlined below:

  1. To manage the school’s Bromcom MIS system, making sure that the right data is recorded accurately and then interrogated for the purpose of school improvement, effective learning and maximising student safety and wellbeing
  2. To support colleagues using other systems such as Google Apps, MS 365, Admissions+, CPOMS etc.
  3. To act as the school’s Examinations Officer
  4. To be part of the school’s Administration and Student Support team

The successful candidates will be provided with training and support as they become expert in the various electronic systems the school uses including:

  • Applicaa Admissions+
  • Microsoft Office 365 and Google G-Suite
  • Access Education Finance
  • Bromcom MIS

The successful candidate needs to enjoy learning new ICT skills. They will not be required to already be familiar with all of these systems. Plenty of support is available in school and through online training. The school is genuinely committed to professional development opportunities for all members of staff and you will be encouraged and supported to take up such opportunities.

Why work at ULMaS?

As an employee at the University of Liverpool Maths School you will be part of a close-knit team united in their desire to transform the life chances of young people across Merseyside by developing their STEM education to the highest standard. ULMaS is a well funded institution with a high level of support from the University of Liverpool, the parents of our students, politicians, philanthropists and many others. It attracts interesting and talented students who take full advantage of the opportunities that the school offers, supporting each other and treating staff members with respect. Our polite, well motivated and hardworking students are the best reason to work in our school; the wonderful staff team comes a very close second.

ULMaS is an extremely friendly community whose members have a strong sense of belonging as well as a deep seated sense of purpose. Our community is varied, tolerant and inclusive. Students are treated with respect and encouraged to be themselves and to feel at home when in school. They are expected to develop rapidly in their maturity and to behave as responsible young adults in a culture of mutual respect.

The small size of our school (approximately 80 students and 15 staff members) means that all staff members take on multiple roles and responsibilities and are flexible in their approach to work. All members of staff in this school have a significant role in supporting students, ensuring that students are safe and cared for at all times. We are both a large family and a small professional organisation. Life is often fun, never dull and normally very busy.

Working in Liverpool

The Liverpool of today is a cosmopolitan and vibrant city attracting people from all over the world who want to enjoy the good things in life whilst progressing with their career.

With a population of 7 million, England's North West incorporates the vibrant cities of Chester, Liverpool and Manchester, and is the UK's largest economic region outside London and the South East. Lying at the geographical centre of the British Isles, over 400 million people across Europe are within four hours flight. The Liverpool John Lennon airport is also the fastest growing in Europe.

As evidence of the area's new dynamism, Liverpool city centre's population has more than tripled in the last 10 years and is forecast to double again in the next 5 years.

Offering affordable housing, good schools, easy access to all other parts of the UK and Europe via road, rail and air, Liverpool provides the history, culture and sporting attractions to create a work/life balance that you and your family can enjoy.

Liverpool is in the midst of exciting economic, cultural and social regeneration. The area is central to STEM development, being at the heart of the UK's chemical, aerospace manufacturing and production industries, home to the second biggest digital industry cluster in Europe and the location of some of the most important physics and life-sciences research in Europe.

The region is the 'arts spend capital of Britain'. Three times more money was spent last year on galleries and museums in the North West than on cultural buildings in London. Added to that, childcare costs around £50 per week less in the North West than in London and weekly travel costs are less than half those in the capital.  Liverpool is the most filmed British city outside London and the city's Albert Dock contains the largest group of grade-one listed buildings in the UK.
