Job overview

We are currently seeking an experienced University and Careers Counsellor to join a team of two other university and careers counsellors. Qualified candidates must have expertise with the university admissions process, including demonstrated success in assisting with admission to top US or UK universities, best practices in career counselling, and familiarity with colleges and universities in the US and/or UK. Knowledge of university systems in other countries is a plus but not a requirement. The University and Careers Counsellor's duties include advising students individually and in small groups on issues pertaining to the transition to university; knowing his or her students well and writing a highly-personalised letter of recommendation for each one; aiding students and families in other aspects of the student’s university research and application process; and occasional travel to visit universities and attend professional conferences. Other responsibilities include parent meetings, workshops, events planning (like college fairs and training), and summer enrichment programme familiarity. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal communication and organisational skills as well as a genuine interest in working with students and parents to meet the needs of our diverse and active school population.

A background in university admissions or college counselling is strongly preferred, as is an existing relationship with professional organisations like NACAC or International ACAC. Working knowledge of Naviance, the Common Application, the University of California application, and standardised testing programs including ACT, SAT, PSAT, and IB, is also an asset. A bachelor's degree and evidence of a commitment to professional development is required.

For a suitably qualified candidate, this position may eventually lead to the role of Director of University and Careers Counselling.
