Duties and Responsibilities:

• According to the Academic plan of the school, take responsibility for your subject team including leading research, curriculum plan coordination, supervising subject teachers, teaching and academic assessment reporting requirements, after Head of School/Deputy Head of School’s review and approval.

• Create, develop, and maintain Subject Leader Handbook which outlines everything within their Subject. Curriculum, organizational, and overall Subject specific policies should be included.

• Propose teaching research topics and objectives, encourage teachers to actively carry out research activities, summarize and exchange in a timely manner, promote experience, and support publication when appropriate.

• Teacher supervision including organizing the teachers to prepare lesson plans collectively, using the same confirmed formatting, reviewing lesson plans to ensure quality, and give the feedback regularly.

• Maintain archive files of all lesson plans detailing all educational materials for usage within the subject and DEXA as a whole.

• Maintain archive files and historical data relating to assessment results.

• Work on teaching timetable including test arrangement and class covers in associate with Academic Administration.

• Academic resource management and supervision

• Observe and mentor new and returning teachers within your subject and as required within the whole school.

• Organize teachers in the Subject to have seminars (trainings) regularly with a detailed agenda as reviewed and approved by SLT and Director of Teacher and Student Advancement including exchanging lesson preparation, class homework or assignment correction, teaching progress, problem solving and continuous improvement of teaching and learning. Subject Leaders should be the Chief Career Professional Coach for their Subject and able to pass this knowledge and understanding to all DEXA as and when required.

• Lead demonstrations through weekly observations, encourage teachers to observe each other's classes, evaluate lessons across disciplines outside their own, learn from each other, integrate Chinese and Western cultures, and help each other through partnership (Team) Teaching.

• Design, promote, and oversee high-quality subject enrichment activities, including After School Activities (ASA), “Zhihong” programs, and wider academic or community events. These should engage students in extending their skills, knowledge, and enjoyment of the subject, while enhancing teachers’ subject literacy and professional growth. Subject Leaders ensure that all activities meet EiM, Education Bureau, and DEXA requirements, and actively propose new opportunities suitable for their subject in agreement with SLT.

• As Subject leader, attend all SLT directed meetings scheduled at the discretion of SLT.

• Attend AMC organized Events and Activities not limited to all Open Houses as scheduled and required for Subject Leaders to attend.

• Some Subject Leaders in addition to the above responsibilities may further take on additional roles and responsibilities such as House Leadership, Sustainability/Coordination, or anything confirmed by SLT particular to their Subject which is for the betterment of the school.

• Lead weekly Meetings with all members of the Subject. Outlining all communication, tasks, work plans and or any and all things that need to be done within the capacity of their duties as members of the Subject Team. A pre-confirmed Agenda, and Minutes must be circulated to SLT as well as all members and attendees of the Meeting.

• Any other reasonable responsibilities and tasks assigned by School leadership and/or line manager.


Qualification and Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or above.

• Substantial experience in teaching and operation management of international courses or Chinese Curriculum courses. All Subject Leaders should be masters within their Subject knowledge and application.

• Be flexible to the demands and requirements of the school and ever changing and evolving education dynamics which is a Bilingual School in China.

• Active thinking, broad vision and understanding of international education.

• Love education, strong sense of responsibility and good teaching philosophy.

• Good organization, coordination, communication and management skills.

• The ability to be innovative and to deal with stressful situations.
