Job overview

Recruitment and Retention allowance also available for the right candidate

We are seeking a highly motivated, ambitious and skilled classroom practitioner with a passion for English to lead a strong team to even greater heights. The department consistently achieves strong results and we wish to appoint an exceptional individual who has the necessary drive, expertise and inspirational attributes to improve outcomes further. In 2022 79% of pupils gained either English Literature or Language at grade 4+.

The applicant must be able to nurture a passion for studying Language and Literature at all levels of ability. The English curriculum has been reconsidered in recent years and provides an extremely solid base from which to extend the ‘inspirational learning’ mantra of the school. English classrooms are well resourced with an innovative design to facilitate collaborative and active learning. Additionally, the department benefits from having a Lead Practitioner who also leads the whole school reading strategy.

Why William Edwards School?

William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, attending William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We firmly believe that school days should be the best days of your life and that schools have a moral purpose to extend the life experiences of their pupils. That is why we boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh cohort of any school in the East of England and we are also one of only two schools in the East of England to hold the Arts Mark Platinum Award. Character education and providing a wealth of different experiences to our pupils is important to us.

We were delighted that our last Ofsted inspection report noted that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and that “the breadth of curriculum opportunities available at the school is a real ‘gem’ in the school’s offer to its pupils”.

You will be:

·        Committed to the Trust’s vision and values

·        At the forefront of education practice

·        Inspirational and innovative

·        An outstanding teaching practitioner

·        A proven leader and manager

·        Experienced in curriculum design and delivery

·        Experienced in professional development and training

·        Able to plan and think strategically

·        An excellent communicator.

Why SWECET?

SWECET is a growing, cross phase Multi Academy Trust, established in 2015 to serve the needs of its communities.  SWECET currently has three ‘Good’ primary schools, one ‘Outstanding’ secondary and one ‘RI’ Secondary that joined the Trust in April 2017.   The Trust believes that schools should be unique and individual institutions with distinct character and that through effective partnership we can challenge, support and learn from each other in order to raise standards and provide exceptional opportunities for all our young people.   It is an exciting time to be joining SWECET with all schools continually striving to be better. Considered, purposeful growth plans are in place that will be to the benefit of all stakeholders. We were invited by the DfE as an approved sponsor to submit applications to open a new Primary Free School in Havering and Secondary Free School in Thurrock. These are both due to open in 2020.
