Located in the town of Paisley, Renfrewshire, St Andrew’s Academy is a co-educational secondary school. A school founded in the Catholic tradition, St Andrew’s Academy offers placed to students aged 11-18, with around 1200 in total. This makes it larger than the average secondary school of its type, with a large and economically diverse catchment area.

Values and Vision

As a denominational secondary school, St Andrew’s Academy draws a great deal from its Catholic traditions, with prayer and the school chaplaincy taking an important place in the day to day running of the school. Students are encouraged to work together for the common good, and staff encourage them to take pride in their work and to foster a strong sense of community. The school curriculum is designed to be wide-ranging and inclusive, serving the needs and abilities of the diverse range of pupils who attend the school.  Like many other Scottish secondary schools, St Andrew’s runs an asymmetrical timetable, with Wednesdays and Fridays being made up of six 50-minute periods, with Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays having an additional seventh period at the end of the day.

Education Scotland Inspection

“The quality of the curriculum was good. Overall, the school provided pupils with a broad and balanced range of experiences based on a sound curriculum rationale. A number of improvements had been introduced recently and these took account of the views of stakeholders.”
