Job overview

Horbury Academy is seeking to appoint an inspiring and excellent English practitioner with strong leadership skills to complement the existing English management team from Easter 2020.

The appointment to the post of Deputy Curriculum Leader will work alongside the other Deputy in the team under the direction of the Curriculum Leader. This would be an ideal opportunity for a strong experienced practitioner with a desire to develop and lead others to start their subject leadership journey.

The English department at the Academy is an outstanding team of professionals who are passionate about inspiring a love of literature and language. We value challenge and active participation. The successful applicant will share this passion alongside the ability to demonstrate innovation, resilience and model professionalism.

The academy and Trust offer an extensive programme of CPD, to help you grow and develop as a leader within a subject. If you have the vision and skills to deliver inspirational teaching and an ambition to embed this in others within your team we’d love to hear from you.

Horbury Academy is part of the Accord Multi Academy Trust which is a Wakefield based Trust; all four academies in the Trust are closely located to one another which lends itself to many opportunities to work closely and collaboratively. All academies are within a three mile radius of one another and can be found a short drive off junction 40 of the M1.

Talk to our staff or pupils and you will find out how proud we are of our unique academy, its supportive atmosphere and strong team ethos. We’re more than happy to show prospective applicants around, and encourage interested candidates to visit and see what makes us great! Contact the HR team on 01924 668930 or hr@accordmat.org and we’ll make the arrangements or would be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Horbury Academy is a mixed secondary academy, catering for pupils aged 11-16, situated on the outskirts of Wakefield. The academy building is purpose built, under one roof, allowing for a unique community and supportive feel.

Horbury Academy has gained a reputation for excellence, inspiring pupils to be the best versions of themselves and vowing that all lessons are engaging and purposeful. It strongly believes that all pupils are entitled to experience the full breadth of education and calls on pupils to demonstrate a thirst for learning and become increasingly independent. Its popularity results in Horbury Academy being continually over-subscribed.

Their strong tradition of success is built on a firm foundation of personalised pastoral care, ensuring a climate for learning that is calm, well ordered and secure. Recognising the hard work and efforts of pupils in their lessons, the academy puts learning and positive recognition of both staff and pupils, at the heart of its approach.

From securing academic success to securing success in extra-curricular activity, its staff are fully committed to ensuring that all pupils make the most of their time at Horbury Academy.

It understands that partnership is an important aspect to the ongoing development of schools and academies and with this in mind, it works alongside Ossett Academy & Accord Sixth Form, Horbury Primary Academy and Middlestown Primary Academy as part of the Accord Multi Academy Trust.

The vision of this partnership is to enhance both practice and knowledge of learning across primary and secondary education, whilst also providing access for pupils and staff to an even better range of opportunities in order to achieve excellence.

Principal: Mrs N Walker
