Deputy Curriculum Leader – Humanities (Geography or History specialist required)

Main / Upper Pay Scale (Outer London) with TLR 2b (£4,442)

Required for September 2018

“Staff are proud of the work they do. Building on the long - standing traditions of the school, staff support the development of ‘courteous, respectful and calm’ young men, reflecting the school’s well - established values.” [Ofsted Report – February 2017]

This is an excellent opportunity to join our highly successful school. We are seeking a geography or history specialist who will join a talented team and who will quickly be able to contribute to our continuing success.

We have a history of excellence at school, with the current whole school Progress 8 measure being in the top 14% nationally. Geography (top 15%) and history (top 11%) are both highly successful and popular subjects and both have a good take-up in the Sixth Form. Girls join our highly successful Sixth Form. Standards at A level continue to be graded highly and many students further their studies at university.

The ability to contribute to the ethos of the school, whilst maintaining our high expectations, will be vital for the successful candidate. Professional development at the school is outstanding and all staff are supported in their own professional ambitions.

Across the school, students benefit from our insistence on: high standards and achievement; an exceptional range of additional opportunities; the focus on traditional values; and an innovative learning environment. Boys significantly out-perform boys locally and nationally. Results exceed national benchmarks for all students. We are committed to providing an excellent learning environment in which students can thrive and where all staff can develop professionally, through continual training and development, in our outward-looking school. The school is in a period of growth and a new £7 million teaching block is being built to accommodate this expansion and will open in 2018.

We are an over-subscribed and popular boys’ school with a mixed Sixth Form. We are situated in a tree-lined neighbourhood of the London Borough of Hounslow, a vibrant area of West London. We are close to Osterley Park, a short hop from central London by tube, and have easy access to Heathrow Airport.

This post is permanent and will suit an experienced or aspirational colleague wishing to progress their career.

About Isleworth and Syon School for Boys

Thank you for your interest in our school.

Our Ethos

Isleworth & Syon School is a ‘Leading Edge’ school with a history of excellence; a high-performing school with scores well above boys nationally. We empower our teaching staff to work collegially in departments, creating shared resources so that planning time can be spent refining rather than re-inventing lessons. Good practice is shared and all teaching staff contribute ideas to further enhance the curriculum. Our school is systematically organised and pastoral processes are tightly managed to allow staff to build professional relationships with students, thereby creating excellent learning environments. Across the school, students benefit from our insistence on high standards and achievement, an exceptional range of extra-curricular activities and the focus on traditional values. We are looking for colleagues who aspire to be part of a great team of staff and who will enjoy learning about the ‘Isleworth & Syon Way’, our unique strategy of ensuring success for all students.

Our aim is to provide an outstanding education for all of our students, through our focus on teaching and learning. We are a continually improving school with a reputation for blending innovation and tradition and providing an exceptional range of additional opportunities whilst we focus on the academic achievement of our students.

Our Staff

We recognise that our staff are our greatest resource and we are ambitious for our staff and invest heavily in their development. We offer an extensive programme of professional development which offers a range of opportunities for training, including internally, through local and national programmes. We have strong partnerships with universities and higher education institutions and actively support staff pursuing heavily subsidised Masters degrees and other higher qualifications. There will also be opportunities for internal promotion and to collaborate within our local partnership of schools.

Our staff - teaching and support - are thoroughly professional and hard working. We aim to provide a working environment which is both rewarding and suitably challenging for our staff.

About Us

We are a voluntary controlled, non-denominational boys school, with a mixed Sixth Form. We have a long and distinguished history which can be traced back to 1630.   We are situated in a tree-lined neighbourhood of Isleworth, a vibrant area of West London. Close to Osterley Park and a short hop from central London by tube (Osterley is a 10-minute walk) or rail (Isleworth is a 7-minute walk). There is easy access to the M3, M4 and Heathrow Airport. Our proximity to Osterley, Isleworth, Brentford and Chiswick result in a truly comprehensive and richly diverse intake of students, which creates a wonderfully vibrant working environment for our staff.

You are very welcome to arrange to visit us and to experience why we are such a successful school and a fantastic place to develop your career. I hope that you will read on and make an application to the school.
