Job overview

Raise standards. Build aspirations. Drive achievement.

We want every child to get an outstanding education – and achieve the qualifications they need to succeed. With this goal in mind, we’ve embarked on a journey of transformation for schools across our county. Outcomes have improved but we’re determined to take them further. As our Deputy Director of Education & Learning, you’ll be at the forefront of access,  progress and inclusion  in Education.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a successful school-led approach. In Oxfordshire, there’s a broad mix of school types, ranging from maintained and free schools, to academies and private institutions. You’ll define and deliver an inspirational vision for all, working with school leaders, local authority officers, multi-agency partners ,elected members and the education community. Together, you’ll focus on three key areas: safeguarding, raising standards and closing the performance gap between vulnerable pupils and their peers. With your influence, we’ll create a solid improvement system based on pupil performance data.

In addition to championing educational excellence, you’ll provide strategic leadership in key areas. These include admissions, place planning and transport functions, as well as services for pupils with Special Educational Needs.

We’re looking for an Education professional who’ll be an expert partner for schools. Someone with the drive and knowledge to review and re-shape current models. You’ll therefore need experience in senior leadership and a proven ability to instigate change. And naturally, you’ll be adept at delivering services for children and young people.  Able to base strategies on data and work with a wide variety of contacts, you’ll build strong relationships and strive to improve outcomes for the next generation.
